"I hope the program does not bring in bad Mexican drivers in the future."

That's what you've been consistently saying throughout your posts.  The reason I've had such a hard time following something you've repeated so clearly is the fact that this program that you're concerned will get out of hand has already been cancelled.  There are no more "current drivers."

The article states that the leftists reneged on the treaty when they "set out to kill it, finally succeeding in the $410 billion omnibus spending bill."  Mexican trucks don't exist in the US, not now nor in the near future.  The issue here is Marxist big government ruining America's economy.

Correct. I should have said "Drivers in the program before the stimulus bill." I apologize. I meant to change my post but forgot.

We'll see. My guess is that Obama will find a way to reinstate the program, while trying not to alienate unions. The issue here is Marxist big government ruining America's economy.

This is a curious case in which the "conservative vs. liberal" paradigm does not hold. Leftist pro-union Hilda Solis (Obama's Sec. of Labor) also is a big NAFTA backer. Conservatives are also divided on the Mexican truck issue, as you can see on this thread.

Maybe this temporary (if I am correct) suspension of the program will lead to a compromise in which Mexico will implement some reforms in enforcing and tracking violations of traffic laws, at least for commercial truck drivers, but that would go against deep rooted Mexican traditions in government and police.

"Obama will find a way..."

Promises, promises.  What he's done here is cut our freedom, increase federal control, and start a tax-hike contest with Mexico.

Any nonsense about some possible future plague of filthy brown Mexicans is the kind of phony racist distraction that Obama suck-ups love to bring up in hopes we won't remember what is.

Please. Now you are starting to sound like a Obama's minions. I know you're not, but you can make a better argument than that. It's not about race. It's about being next to a 3rd world country with rampant corruption and instability, while "our" government rarely takes any interest in its own citizens' safety. Examples are Obama, McCain, and Bush.

Rush was just talking about this --Obama raises taxes on oil imports from Mexico (after Canada our biggest foreign source) and that's supposed to make Mexico less corrupt and more stable.  It isn't.  It's about Obama taking our money, increasing his power and cutting our freedom --all while fooling some people into thinking we'll somehow be more 'protected'.

Much better post, congratulations. Now we are talking about issues.

Obama raises taxes on oil imports from Mexico

Do you have a link for that? All I can find is that Mexico raised tariffs on US imports. AFAIK, Mexico's oil exports have not changed.

We're racing ahead too fast and we need to all get on the same page again.  What I said was "Rush was just talking about this --Obama raises taxes on oil imports from Mexico...", so here's the Rush link talking about Obama and fuel prices, and from from the article:

Our third-largest trading partner, the Mexicans have retaliated by saying they will impose tariffs on 90 U.S. industrial and agricultural products, worth $2.4 billion in 2007. So the cost of this "victory" against Mexican trucking will be borne by farmers and manufacturers around the country.

--and that's showing an immediate increase in taxes resulting from Obama's mismanagement.  OK, we all talk about Obama raising taxes but that's technically impossible.  The US constitution (specifically the House) has the power to raise taxes.  Just the same, Obama will propose a budget that will suggest taxing and spending and the Legislature will have the final say --subject to Obama's veto, but we're digressing again.

The article admits we're heading for more tax hikes and Rich Lowry still thinks it's "unlikely".  OK, I like hoping for the best as much as the next guy but imho hoping for an Obama's tax-cut is certifiably bonkers.

OK, thanks.

You are absolutely correct that Obama would raise energy taxes (not just from Mexico, but from all sources) if he could (and he is already restricting the lands available for drilling), because he is a global warming and high tax fanatic. Maybe in Kenya they don't know the fairy tale about killing the golden goose. Obama may "run out of other people's money" soon. There are signs that some Dems are uncomfortable with Cap and Trade, and like Rush, I hope Obama fails.

I got a smaller car last year, not because I think that it will "save the planet," but because I didn't want to pay so much for gas. People who want to buy bigger cars should get bigger cars. Sometimes one bigger car carrying 7 people uses less gas than driving 2 smaller cars, and I think the cost per mile, including all the costs of maintaining 2 cars, is very likely to be lower in that case.

If we had more cheap, affordable, reliable, hybrid cars for those who want them, that would be good, but Big Gov is not good at running businesses.

Speaking of golden geese:

Priceless jpg!

A lot of business leaders are Democrats that actually are that clueless, but my take is that most are smart enough to know that they can't be on record as being 'anti-Obama'.
