Man butted by deer at Stockholm supermarket

A man was butted by an unexpected assailant while shopping at his local supermarket in a Stockholm suburb on Friday - a roebuck deer.

"I was caught unawares when the roebuck suddenly came at me," Anders Östeberg said to Aftonbladet of his meeting with the deer at a Coop store in Liljeholmen in southern Stockholm.

It is thought that the deer sneaked into the building when the loading bay was left open in connection with a delivery.

The frightened deer ran into the store and Östberg was unfortunate to be in the rampaging animal's path.

The deer butted Östberg on the arm, before a fellow customer managed to detain the wild animal in a strangle hold before escorting him from the store.

Luckily for Anders Östberg the deer had hide covering his otherwise razor sharp horns and he therefore managed to escape his close encounter with only minor bruising and an unusual story to tell his friends.

“But perhaps there are stores in the US that too could compete with what Wal-Mart has on offer?”

Yes, Target.

In fact, I prefer it.

Target’s house brand of diapers is pathetic, and they don’t carry half-and-half. Good selection of toys, though.

If the deer hit the man’s arm with his head, why do they call it “butting”?

Yes, deer tend to become panicked and disoriented in those conditions.

There are lots of small deer where I live in Maryland. White Tail?

It’s suburbia, but the “city” was designed with numerous small forest patches and corridors. Small deer and critters of all sorts thrive. I see the deer occasionally when I’m out walking the bike paths.

Target and Costco both average 6-14% over Walmart on the same products.

That was from an independent study and a non walmart friendly source.

The deer should sue the Socialist for not knowing enough to get out of his way.

“Sears is still doing pretty well around these parts (northern New England). I’ll be getting myself a new lawnmower there in a few weeks”

- Lawnmower?

Buy a Swedish Husqvarna Automower instead:)

By the way, I recently bought a robot vacuum cleaner for a pair I know as an engagement gift. I feared they’d get irritated or something, thinking it was some kind of bad joke, but they actually appreciated the thing and furthermore their dog even gets along with it pretty well (somewhat unusual, I’ve found out).

That could be you or I, any day soon, anywhere on this planet.

(I’ll be going to Alsace, France, next week - admittedly, my mother pays for it all even though I’m 39 - but at least I won’t die on home soil).

Here in Shanghai, China, are two large Wal-mart stores, but they are dumps compared to the French discout store, Carefoure. The Chinese have a version of them called Lotus Center which is also much better than Wal-mart.

My country, Sweden, boasts a lot of stores that could compete with Wal-Mart prices . . .

And I was afraid that no REAL news was going to make to the forum today.

Very cool lawnmower! And practical I imagine if you have one of those nice, even, regularly-shaped properties. I, alas, do not. I’ve got more hills, valleys, twists, turns, moguls, mounds and divots than you can imagine. If my lawn hosted a golf tournament it would be the Tibetan Invitational.

- There are Carrefour stores in China?

Great, but an even more praiseworthy European chain of stores is German Lidl.

I bought a razor-sharp kitchen knife for €1 at a Lidl store in Hamburg some years ago for my best friend’s summer house in Dalsland here in Sweden, because IMO such a magnificent residence deserves to house a fully equipped kitchen and also, when I’m a guest to this place, I usually end up doing all of the cooking.

You shouldn't need a license for that!

- As a guy waking up to Europe each morning, I’d say Texas leads the world in sanity!

But, I feel there still is hope for my part of the world.

There might be some faults to Europe, but we sure don’t deserve the politicians we elect:)
