Dylan Ratigan of CNBC’s ‘Fast Money’ Leaves Network

Dylan Ratigan, the longtime host of the CNBC program “Fast Money,” abruptly left the cable channel and the show on Friday, after a discussion with the network’s president, Mark Hoffman.

The move came after contract negotiations between CNBC and Mr. Ratigan ended with just a week left until the end of his current deal.

Asked why he would walk away from a successful program where he had built a reputation for fast and funny delivery of the day’s financial news, Mr. Ratigan said, “I had the benefit of my contract coming to an end. This is an opportunity to take a pause and evaluate all my options.”

Mr. Ratigan said he decided not to appear on Friday’s show after he and Mr. Hoffman agreed it would be “a distraction.” He said he was grateful to CNBC for the opportunity “to create and host a show like this.”

Brian Steel, a spokesman for CNBC, said: “Dylan told us he was leaving effective today. We thank him for his quality work.” Mr. Ratigan, 36, who has been at CNBC for five years, has hosted “Fast Money” since 2006.

Several CNBC colleagues suggested Friday that Mr. Ratigan, while talented, was easy to anger and difficult to work with and that he had told people that at some point he envisioned himself heading an entertainment show like David Letterman’s.

Mr. Ratigan dismissed the comments about his personality as the kind of thing that always gets leaked when someone leaves a television job. As for wanting to emulate Mr. Letterman, he said, “That’s an idea from two years ago.” He said he was now dedicated to covering the economy, “the story that is affecting every American in every setting.”

I say —— He was pushed out because he was too forthright about the thievery on Wall Street plus was anti-0bama. He didn’t have enough respect for 0bama/Guithner efforts

And NBC owns CNBC
And GE owns NBC
And GE want’s government bailouts and is in 0bama suck up mode

Fast Money is a very popular show. Why would CNBC let him walk away?

He seemed to be off the Obama reservation as of late, at least to me. But then, I didn’t watch that show regularly.

I've just started getting FBC last month and already I'm seeing more reason to switch from CNBC. Though, lately I've been avoiding the business channels.

I DON”T believe he was anti-Obama at all. I see him as a left of center viewpoint. NEVER heard him mention Barney Frank or Chris Dodd as culpable figures. And I got real tired of his daily rants. He took himself way too seriously and DID seem angry. Those two characteristics will get you in real trouble every time. I say good riddance.

Melissa Lee does a great job pinch hitting for Ratigan on Smart Money. That show will go on seamlessly without him. I won't miss him at all.

The past 6 months he has really showed his leftist bias (probably because he lost his A** in the market and needed to vent...)

The show will easily go on without him...

I’m still waiting for one of the CNBC floor reporters (Bob Pisani, say) to ask one of their regular floor trader interviewees (Gordon Charlopp, say) whether they’re net long or net short the market. If that question has ever been asked, I missed it. The likelihood is that the floor trader would have to lie anyway; most of them are net short much of the time, and it wouldn’t look good to admit on the air that they’re trying to profit from the market going down.

I agree, Melissa is very good. Ratigan seemed to get more and more over the top as time went on. I found him to be quite irritating.

He might have gotten a better offer.

When MSNBC's Morning Joe Scarb. took timeoff for an ailing parent, Dylan stepped in and made a very impressive showing. Conservatives in particular were very impressed with his comments and insights about the economy.

Even when Joe came back, Dylan guested awhile more. Then he was off---now we know why.

Probably negotiating for a show of his own. Hope so.

Glad to hear that report.
D Ratigan is a good man and should land on his feet
Fox business channel is a no brainer but perhaps he is too hot for them (too)

.....Ratigan is a good man and should land on his feet....

He's very quick-witted, smart, funny, and has a decidedly conservative POV.

He'll be good on a show of his own---interviewing, commenting.

Course those matinee idol looks of his help a little (womantalk).
