I understand there is a new anti-freeper site started by disgruntled former and present Mormon FReepers and it is their intention of bankrupting FR during the coming Freepathon by withholding their donations and disrupting our activities. Well, all I can say is, if they feel that badly against FR, by all means they should withhold their donations and drop out of FR. But it they attempt to disrupt our operations I will guarantee they will no longer be members of FR. If that is their wish, so be it.
I'm not going to try to defend FR from their claims of religious persecution, but I will say that Mormons have and always have had free reign to post their threads on FR just as all other religious groups have enjoyed. Free Republic defends the right to freedom of religion and has always welcomed religious discussion and always will. And Mormons have always been welcome here. I have absolutely nothing against Mormons.
If you are one who has left or is leaving, I wish you well, but disruption of FR is not welcome and will not be tolerated.
And this is not the first time such activity has been attempted by groups of disgruntled former FReepers. Good luck with that. There is always some group that feels FR should be bent to their way of thinking and end up saying my way or the highway. Well, I don't know about you, but I'm not changing so I guess it's the highway. Is it Feb 8 yet?

Jim, they can try as they will. It is stupid. Why make it a Mormon versus FR thing? This isn’t a religious site though we talk about religious issues occasionally usually in defense of religion from Democrats/Liberals and the ACLU. I personally don’t think highly of the book of Mormon, I believe it to be fiction made up by a conman, but this does not mean that I think badly of Mormons, people believe all kinds of things I do not believe in. They are not in a special place where that is concerned because much of modern conventional wisdom is nothing more than an intricately crafted mythology spread through the ever shrinking pulpits of CNN, MSNBC, CBS, and ABC.
It is where they share a common ground in opposition to liberalism and the desire to defend our country, our constitution, and the American way of life that I find allegiance with them. Many of us could not support their fetish for Mitt Romney and some I know took that personally. But it wasn’t personal I don’t vote for people simply because they have chiseled good looks or because they wear Jesus on their sleeves. Romney had the weakest record in support of conservatism of any of the candidates in the race except maybe Rudy Guiliani and at least Guiliani ran as the fiscal conservative social liberal he is. The proof is not in what a politician says but what they do.
That said I do not have to agree with them on their religious peculiarities or in their religious bias towards electing one of their own no more than I have to agree with someone’s sexual peculiarities. I have been a big supporter of the Mormon Church and their efforts on Prop 8 and other issues as have many here on FR have been. We share much common ground but if they are going to insist on calling any religious criticism bigotry then they are no better than the sexual activists and radical Muslims they decry and we are better off without them if they feel that way.
FR will continue to be the center of the conservative online world because you Jim allow a forum that is unlike any other but sadly what so many seek is a comfortable echo room where they are never challenged. I for one do not seek the conservative version of the liberal establishment. We are conservative because we value what makes America strong and that is the freedom to disagree and argue our ideals in an open forum.
I may have taken FR for granted in the past but you can count on my financial support from now on.
I always felt Mormons took a lot of heat here, BUT they got a fair, honest and OPEN forum to state their views and beliefs.
In fact it was more than OPEN. Mormons, among other groups like Catholics, can and did post in protected forums (devotional/caucus)where their theology could go unchallenged and unrebutted. That IMHO is bending over backwards and a credit to FR.
