Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | March 29, 2009 | Ryan Haggerty

A 42-year-old Richfield man, his 9-year-old son and a 12-year-old girl from another family were killed Sunday morning when the SUV they were riding in was hit by a truck that slid across a snow-covered road in Washington County.

The man's 40-year-old wife, two of their children and the 12-year-old girl's 11-year-old brother suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospitals, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The three men who were in the one-ton flatbed truck were not injured.

...

According to the sheriff's department:

The crash occurred just before 9 a.m. on state Highway 164 north of Monches Road in the Village of Richfield.

The 42-year-old man was driving the SUV south when the northbound truck, driven by a 38-year-old Milwaukee man, slid into the southbound lane.

...

The three people who were killed were pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators believe all three were wearing seatbelts.

...

No citations or charges have been issued in connection with the crash, which is still under investigation.

The truck's driver and his two passengers - ages 30 and 31, both of Milwaukee - are suspected of being in the country illegally, according to the sheriff's department. They are in custody at the Washington County Jail.

The truck's driver does not have a valid Wisconsin driver's license, according to the sheriff's department. He is believed to have been in the county since approximately 1996, according to the sheriff's department.

Neither alcohol nor drugs is believed to be a factor in the crash.

But many, many other laws were broken that lead to this tragedy

Make, model and year of mfg. would be helpful. One would think that an evil SUV would be the match of a one ton truck.

“Make, model and year of mfg. would be helpful. One would think that an evil SUV would be the match of a one ton truck.”

Many popular early SUVs were based on 1/2 ton pickup chassis. Some still are—Tahoe, Yukon, etc.

Others are based on car derived unibody chassis.

Few would be the match for a one tone truck, everything else being equal, which it is not.

Direction of impact, vehicle weight, speed, safety features employeed effectively vs. absent/ not effective.

A lot of variables. I was hit nearly head on, and gained respect for serious collisions immediately-in the ambulance ride to the emergency room.

Excursions and HD Suburbans are based on 3/4 ton trucks and should fare as well as can be expected against an unloaded 1 ton truck. My 1990 Suburban 1/2 ton 4x4 is of the high cg design where it would tend to go over 4x2 1 ton trucks.

The other SUVs are based on increasing tinfoil as they go down in size. So the question is still: Make, Model, mfg year.

exactly!

if you had two drivers. one drunk, one sober and an accident occured that was caused by the sober driver...the drunk driver would be blamed for it because HE SHOULDN’T HAVE EVEN BEEN ON THE ROAD AT ALL IN THE FIRST PLACE!

SAME WITH ILLEGALS! SHOULDN’T HAVE EVEN BEEN ON THE ROAD IN THE FIRST PLACE!

13 years in the county!

How many years in the US as an illegal?

Non racial profiling did not work in this case.

He wasn't a 38-year-old Milwaukee man, he was a 38-year-old Mexican man.

The company's owner was in Florida at the time of the crash but is flying back to Milwaukee and is expected to land Sunday night, Falk said. He is expected to release a statement upon arrival, she said.

I can imagine his statement. Something like: "Gee, I'm sorry about your kids and your husband! But I hired those illegal aliens because I like cheap labor. And the politicians all love it."

Must be Japanese illegals...

The truck's driver does have a valid Wisconsin driver's license, according to the Sheriff's Department, and he is believed to have been in the country since about 1996.

The truck is owned by Terra Tec Landscapes Inc., which is based in Washington County, said Susie Falk, a company spokeswoman. The three people who were in the truck are employees of the company, Falk said.

There has to be an explanation for this. The truck’s drivers were running late to start their shift at a job that was previously turned down by American citizens.

You’re welcome. It’s a hard site to look at. I get sooooo angry.

Awhile back, someone here at FR suggested making a quilt, each square for a victim. Imagine how huge that quilt would be.
