What Are You Reading Now? - My Quarterly Survey

OK everyone, it's time for my quarterly "What Are You Reading Now" survey.
I do this to gauge what Freepers are reading these days. Amongst many Internet sites, I find Freepers to be some of the most well-read.
It can be anything...an old classic, a trashy pulp novel, a technical journal, etc. Please do not defile this thread by replying "I'm reading this post". It became extraordinarily un-funny a long time ago.
I'll start. I'm two pages into "Inside Gitmo: The True Story Behind the Myths of Guantanmo Bay" by Gordon Cucullu. It looks to be quite interesting. Barack Obama should read this book but somehow I don't think the contents of it would ever sink in.
Well, what are you reading?

Called out of darkness : a spiritual confession / Anne Rice.
Blue Ridge roadways : a Virginia field guide to cultural sites / by M. Anna Fariello.
An official history of scouting / foreword by Lord Baden-Powell.
The radioactive boy scout : the true story of a boy and his backyard nuclear reactor / Ken Silverstein.
Victoria’s wars : the rise of empire / Saul David.
Desert solitaire : a season in the wilderness / by Edward Abbey ; drawings by Edward Abbey ; photos. by Gibbs Smith.
Victoria’s Wars is VERY interesting. The Brits were busy then. Desert Solitaire is fun in a tedious way. It’s very nature oriented for campfire stories. I finished the Scouting book but am keeping it for research. I haven’t really started the other books.

Not long ago, I discovered a series of 7 books called "The Kent Chronicles". They're not new--I think they were printed in the 70's and 80's. They were written by John Jakes.
I am really enjoying them---because even though the books (they are historical novels) chronicle the founding of this country , they are a good reminder of what is happening now and how we must fight to keep what our forefathers fought and died for!
Sadly--I'm afraid it's too late.....

Here is a quote from that little Lincoln book.
My Dear Sir:
I must in candor say I do not think myself fit for the presidency. I certainly am flattered and gratified that
some partial friends think of me in that connection; but I really think it best for our cause that no concerted effort, such as you suggest, should be made. Let this be considered confidential.
