I stopped watching Bill Maher a long time ago, and it’s moments like this that remind me why he’s a waste of broadcast air time. Maher complains that we need to bring home the troops from World War II by pulling out of Germany and Japan, and gives us this pithy little “salute” to American fighting forces:

Why do we have 50,000 troops in Germany and 30,000 in Japan?
Simple answer, asshole. No one trusts them with nuclear weapons, especially their neighbors. The U.S. nuclear umbrella covers both countries, but they don’t get to have fingers on the button.
Maher doesn’t trust American fingers on The Button.
He is more proud of the “non-coward” Al Qaeda agents who killed themselves on 9-11.

As much as I hate Bill Maher, I’m impressed that he was able to raise his limp wrist high enough to make a nasty salute.
I wonder if Maher has ever heard of The Rape of Nanking, or the record of the German Army in Russia (or, for that matter, of the Soviet Red Army in Germany)?

With no disrespect to our troops, I myself often wonder why we keep them stationed in countries that seemingly have little desire to defend themselves, and frankly show very little loyalty or gratitude to us. Forward Operating Areas perhaps, but I do wonder.
Like Maher does.

People like this think they are “critical thinkers,” or “intellectual” by spewing such nonsense. They are tough guys in their little circle of wimps. These types have learned to do with words what they were always to weak to do physically. They are bullies, hiding behind others while they spew their big words and beat on people with insults.
People like this are just vile. They have no real new ideas, no answers, NOTHING to give us other than witty insults and shock effect. Maher is to comedy what Michael Moore is to a documentary.
Compared to others, Japan has been a very staunch ally (See the article about the USS Washington in Japan at City Journal (www.city-journal.org). Treaties with both Japan and Germany commit US forces to bases on their territory.
Also, according to friends at FBI and US military, German and French intellignece services have provided them with a wealth of information since 2001, despite their governments’ disagreements over US policy in Iraq.

Although you do seem to have some enjoyable programming, I usually just don't watch Maher’s usual anti-American screed. However, with his latest comment impugning our armed forces, implying our troops stationed in Japan and Germany are responsible for all their rapes, crosses a line that I can no longer tolerate.
I'll be canceling my subscription to your services and contacting a couple of million of my closest on-line friends urging them to do the same. I can see no reason why one penny of my money should go to support the deconstruction of my country.

Actually, if you’ve ever read the Tom Clancy book “Without Remorse” I’d do little billy the same way Mr. Clark did to the drug dealer/pimp in the hyperbaric chamber.
