Juan Williams: Why the White House Won’t Let Go of ‘The Limbaugh Thing’ Anytime Soon
Fox News ^ | March 30th, 2009 8:00 PM Eastern

Posted on 03/31/2009 9:59:51 AM PDT by lewisglad

As one White House official explained it to me Limbaugh became an issue not because he is the most prominent Obama critic but because the talk show host embodies “hyper-partisanship.”

Limbaugh became a stand-in for White House view of Republicans as a party that is not constructive, not willing to seek common ground and out of touch with a bipartisan thirst for solutions to pressing economic problems. Obama’s aides connect the dots and see a picture of a dark, unappealing political landscape on the right in which Republicans have become so in-grown that not one of them felt free to repudiate Limbaugh for saying he wants the new American president to fail.

Right now, an administration official said, “the American people are not ideological…they are pragmatic. They are interested in beating the recession. Politics will take care of itself.”

White House officials say they don’t have to push too far for the public to get the idea that Limbaugh is the personification of Republican opposition that allows the GOP to be marginalized as the party of “no” and even as the president’s spokesman Robert Gibbs said recently the party of “no new ideas.”

The White House was giddy last week at the sight of a GOP alternative budget that lacked numbers and was little more than an 18-page expression of opposition to any tax hikes for anyone but with few hard numbers about how they would put together a budget.

“We are pleased with where we are…and we are amazed at where the other guys are going,” said the president’s aide. Later he added: “Our numbers are moving up not down and the numbers for Republicans in Congress are bad because they are not acting in good faith, they are not offering constructive opposition.”

Oh, yeah. The Dems are only trying to save the Republicans from themselves. I’m not surprised Juan Williams doesn’t fall for this line of horse product; I’m only surprised that anyone over the age of 12 does.

I guess the House GOP is too easy a target.

They are weak and spineless, and I think they like it that way. Nothing easier than being in the minority opposition.

Oh, and those “honest” Democrats who have rid us of “the culture of corruption” are going to do what’s right and “waste a good crisis”?

Guess he missed the polls last week showing the GOP leading in generic congressional balloting for the first time in forever?

“a party that is not constructive, not willing to seek common ground and out of touch with a bipartisan thirst for solutions to pressing economic problems.”

In other words, a party that is against socialism? If you seek common ground with socialists, you merely end up advancing the cause of socialism.

"The White House was giddy last week at the sight of a GOP alternative budget that lacked numbers..."

Nonsense you Democratic asshat! That Republican budget had a federal income tax rate modified to 10% up to $100K and 25% on additional income over $100K. Ohhhhhh... THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO KEEP ABOUT $5 FRIKIN' GRAND OF MY MONEY PER YEAR!

I hate Democrats! Those are numbers you nitwit Democrats and with the extra $5K/yr of my own frikin' money in the first place, and everyone else keeping more of their money, we'd pull this nation right out of the recession!

I hate Democrats! They lie. They cheat. The have no moral compass. Have I mentioned they lie and cheat?

[Frankly, I don’t trust these numbers. ]

I think the numbers are correct. The scary part is that it says a good majority of people are delusional and in search of unicorns and candyland. There is no way to recover economically spending trillions on government boondoggles while inflating the currency and shutting down energy production.

That's because we agree with Rush on this point. Obama and his thugs should fail. And is Juaan absolutely sure that he hasn't fallen for the WH talking points? Pathetic.

The fascist are proud of the progress made towards the destruction of this country, but they need enemies to distract people from questioning their progress. That brings them around to Rush. His ratings are soaring faster than 0bama’s deficit, and he is the biggest threat our fuhrer has.

You’re right. Most of them are spineless, liverlillied rhinos who are just happy getting a pay check and getting along. Although there are some who give me hope. Lord, I wish we could get a good conservative Senator to kick Mary Landrieu in her pompus. egotistical, leftist butt. She votes whatever Obama wants and the stupids in North LA and NO still vote her in.

If the Republicans grow a spine and become more like Rush—setting themselves apart from Zero and the other Dim/Commies and not becoming more like them—they will routinely kick the Dims’ butts.

If they take Zero's advice and make nice with the new dictator, the Republicans will continue to slide into irrelevancy.

The Republicans have agreed with spending trillions to keep the zombie banks alive. Like it or not, that's still a far bigger long term issue than marginal tax rates.

When I hear the GOP say with a united voice -

"No one is too big to fail. 'Bailout' is a word that should be used only in the context of parachute jumping."

- then I'll take them seriously.

Not one single Republican in the House of Representatives voted yes on that $800 billion stimulus package. And the Republicans have not okayed the US Treasury’s Turbo Timmy to print money, nor are they going to vote yes on the $3.6 trillion budget.

I was referring to the TARP plan, which could not have passed without a Republican president and Republican votes. And if you are certain that all Republicans will oppose any TARP II, please give me a source. I’d be happy to learn that it’s true.

Bull.

If you watch CSpan one quickly realizes the liberal media has decided to blackout/ ignore any spirited dissent to His Excellency Barack Hussein Obama, Head of Government, Duce of Fascism, and Destroyer of Capitalism.

Just for clarity sake, the last part was Mussolini's official title, polymorphed for BHO.

Limbaugh’s increased ratings doesn’t mean it is a “loss” for Dems. Clearly, we are dealing with a dirty, corrupt, Chicago-thug, 100% politics-all-the-time, leftist in the White House. Obama thinks he can trash and smear private citizens for his own political gain. Juan Williams thinks he will succeed. We’ll find out tonight in NY-20. If Murphy beats Tedisco, the Limbaugh-Palin strategy will have been vindicated.

Rasmussen is the only poll showing Republicans gaining. I know he has been accurate in the 2008 election, but it needs to be pointed out that most polls show otherwise.

Are you kidding? The dumb masses who voted for Obama didn't even realize that Sarah Palin was not his VP candidate and that the GOP didn't run Congress.

They know Rush's name (even if they wouldn't recognize his voice).

Michael Steele goes on talk radio (subbing for Bill Bennett) and slams Obama but he's black and a faceless head of the GOP.

Morning Joe was ridiculing the republican alternative as embarassing.

The rare air of the DC deziens had no clue about the the real world. The live in DC, report about DC TO DC, without any reference to ouside DC.

Juan Williams does not even register the tea parties or illegal immigration amnesty outrage.

He is just by DC for DC and ONLY DC.

Amazing! A frikin' blank piece of paper is less embarrassing than Obama and the Dems' $3.6 trillion dollar budget. The US government only pulls in $2.5 trillion per year.

And they laugh at the Republicans? Amazing.

...even as the president’s spokesman Robert Gibbs said recently the party of “no new ideas.”

I like that: "no new ideas."

What the liberals sell as "new ideas" is never new and it's costs are always prohibitive. True discovery, originality, novelty and inspiration are very rare and are never a derivative of policy or management.

Mr Gibbs, here is an old idea for you: You reap what you sow.
