Welcome to the WPA of the 21st century. Hope for some change in your pockets, after this rubberstamp congress gets done. The GOP is dead to me.

What a headline? “Congress expands ways for Americans to bow to their masters” would be more appropriate.

Well, now isn’t that a delightfully euphemistic story...

I fail to see how Congress EXPANDED ways Americans can help others. Volunter efforts are only limited by your skills and willingness to do for others.

And making moves to require public “volunteer” service (as is required of some convicted criminals) is a violation of basic rights. Unless we are going to see everyone drafted into the military, and even those people get paid.

Reminds me of a joke of the Roosevelt era:

3000 years ago, Moses spoke to the Israelites...

Boys, get on your camels, pack up your asses, we're goin' to the promised land!

.............

3000 years later...

Obama says...

Boys, sit on yur asses, light up a Camel, this is the promised land...

$5.7 billion bill that takes ambitious steps on public service

Paying people, with TAXPAYER'S MONEY, to volunteer isn't VOLUNTEERING! It's STEALING!

As the old folks were fond of saying, “We ain’t got a pot to p!ss in, nor a window to throw it out of,” but congress is busy stoking the stove with the few dollars that are left.

I'm sure the GOP apologists will be here soon.

But until then, I'll point out that 70 Republican House members voted for this bill along with 22 Republican Senators.

I'm having my doubts as to whether the GOP can be saved as the party of smaller government and protector of personal freedom. I think a lot of the problem is leadership. Especially in the Senate. This is yet another case where Minority "Leader" McConnell and Minority Whip (or should that be Wimp) Kyl couldn't even hold half of the Republican Senators together to vote against this.
