From the I've seen it all dept: Condom distribution at church - UCC likes the idea

The Institute on Religion & Democracy is blasting the religious denomination of President Barack Obama for its recent stance on condom distribution inside houses of worship.

Recently, the HIV and AIDS Network of the United Church of Christ (UCC) said condoms should be handed out at places of worship. The statement was issued during a presentation to the denomination's Wider Church Ministries Board and also advocated making condoms available at faith-based educational settings.

A UCC executive said that condom distribution is a matter of life and death and that condoms should be made available to save the lives of young people.

Calling it the denomination's "moral responsibility" to make condoms available, the UCC's executive for health and wellness advocacy said "people of faith make condoms available because we have chosen life so that we and our children may live."

Alan Wisdom, with the Institute on Religion & Democracy, believes the UCC's statement is dangerous. "It sends a message to youth particularly, the kids who meet in their Sunday schools, that the church really has no expectation of them in terms of sexuality...

What’s not to love about a house of worship like that?

Isn’t the “Church of Christ”, which imo is a terribly misnamed church, the one Obama attended.

Well, I guess while they’re at it, they should hand out some clean needles. /sarc

Kinda’ goes against the command “go forth and multiply.”

And GM (Government Motors) will give them a new car with a comfy back seat for partaking in *you know what* before long, LOL!

I’m still looking for a new church. I’m still mad at my old church...and it takes a helluvalot for we boring Lutherans to get worked up into a lather!

(My old church was not THIS denomination.)

My dear old mother, God rest her soul, attended the Church of Christ all her life until the day she died. I attended as a youth living at home. But it wasn’t Obama’s church. We actually worshipped the Lord.

I’d say this makes it official, UCC is a cult.

I couldn’t find “Go forth and distribute rubbers” anywhere in the Bible.........

Must not be much of a church.

A few years back, a conservative holdout in the UCC referred to his own, increasingly liberal denomination as “Unitarians Considering Christ”.

I guess they have finished considering and chosen to utterly reject Him. Sad.

I understand that, absolutely. THIS is not your Daddy's UCC!

It so sad when Churches sell out the congregation and lead them astray. Not to mention those who feel compelled to leave. I have been there, though not with this church.

Me too, Diane. Haven't found one that isn't full of liberals, except the Catholic Church, but I am not catholic.

The Churches in the south are so much more in line of what Churches should be.

Have you found a LCMS? WE left the ELCA for the LCMS.

Go to the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Come visit church with us sometime to see what a Biblically-based church is really like.

There’s Church of Christ and then there’s the UNITED Church of Christ. There is a world of difference.

I guess this should be no surprise given that the UCC is Jeremiah Wright’s denomination.

I’m not sure which is worse, handing out condoms and encouraing fornication in church, or preaching the hatred that Wright preaches.

Made me think of my old Mother, possibly the sweetest person who ever lived. I can still picture her sitting by the window reading her Bible. She joined the Southern Baptist Church when she married Daddy at age 18. Remained a devout one until she died.
