Conyers weighing probe of ACORN

Conyers weighing probe of ACORN S.A. Miller (Contact)

Opponents of the liberal activist group ACORN have found an unlikely champion in House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr., who is clashing with his own party to pursue hearings on accusations that the group has committed crimes ranging from voter fraud to a mob-style "protection" racket.

"I still want to do it and I probably will," Mr. Conyers, Michigan Democrat, told The Washington Times on Tuesday.

He dismissed the argument made by fellow Democrats that accusations of voter fraud and other crimes should be explored by prosecutors and decided in court, not by lawmakers in Congress.

"That's our jurisdiction, the Department of Justice," Mr. Conyers said. "That's what we handle - voter fraud. Unless that's been taken out of my jurisdiction and I didn't know it."

Mr. Conyers' continued commitment to hearings bristles Capitol Hill Democrats because it threatens to rekindle criticism of the financial ties and close cooperation between President Obama's campaign and ACORN and its sister organizations Citizens Services Inc. and Project Vote.

The groups came under fire during the campaign after probes into suspected voter fraud in a series of presidential battleground states, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Mexico and Nevada.

Rep. Jerrold Nadler, New York Democrat and chairman of the Judiciary subcommittee with the jurisdiction to conduct the hearing, said he does not think Congress is the place to hear criminal charges.

"It's not our business to say ACORN is terrible or ACORN is wonderful. That's not a congressional job," Mr. Nadler said. "The evidence - I've listened to it - I think most of it is nonsense. If it's true, it's a law enforcement matter."

I'm going with the April Fools line but, just in case it is real, it will be fun watching the "Good Ol' Boy" calling the "Good Ol' Kettle - Black".

Be still my heart.

Following the Germandering of Michigan, that bozo is my Representative. His wife is a total "train wreck" as the President of the Detroit City Council.

It is like the "urban" folks running Detroit and Michigan into the dumpster, as fast as they can but stripping as much money on the way as they can.

Remember all those Senate investigations during the 1990s?

Whatever justice there used to be in the Congress of the United States, it’s now a hollow shell eaten out by political termites over the course of our nation’s history.

Expecting this investigation to go somewhere, is about as profitable as thinking you’ll get the $1 million dollar lottery call in the next 48 hours.

Another April Fools joke? If not, it will be. Any probe by Conyers would find ACORN guilty of nothing.

Let me see if I understand this line of logic. The same Congress and President who single handedly took over GM, fired the CEO, made them quit advertising, and passed punitive retroactive tax on just CEOS bonuses because GM took the bail out money.
- now wants us to believe it is not within their power to investigate a non profit that got billions of dollars in the same stimulus package and whose members have engaged in embezzelment, voter fraud, muscle for money and who knows how many other nefarious illegal activities?
Ok so I’ll bite -
We might as well put it in writing. Congress shall be exempt from any and all laws that the chattering class must follow and further more Congress shall decide who is the chattering class.
Only in Bamas LA LA Land can idiots be proclaimed geniuses and corrupt be proclaimed innocent victims and tax dollars be proclaimed Congress’s own piggy bank to use for bribery and blackmail in order to bring in a new era of Marxist elitism.

Our country as we knew it growing up is gone. Now this government takes sport in how many lies they can tell and fool the Sheeple. They are only fooling themselves because the 80 some years we spend here is nothing compared to eternity.

Exactly the same word that popped into my mind. A soft, superficial, perfunctory investigation ending with the supposed revelation that no wrongdoing occurred, and an exhortation of all parties to accept the legitimacy of and abandon all criticism levied against ACORN.

“Honestly officer, we did our own internal investigation which showed no wrongdoing occurred...there is no need to trouble yourselves over the matter. Conflict of interest? Nonsense, we documented everything right here...”

Yeah Crap!

Who cares about some contrived and orchestrated Congressional committee hearing! Especially one conducted by a major RAT.

If ever there was a calling for an action of real checks and balances, this is it.

This is a job for either the RNC or a credible and motivated conservative group with real lawsuits, discovery and some private money behind it.

The action needs to be parallel, ongoing and with regular progress reports through the available and friendly media.

If that doesn't get the point across, ad buys may be required.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.

Sure, Conyers can investigate. You know in advance what he will find, too..."ACORN has been doing an exemplary, honorable job with the little funding that they receive."

This is a show trial. So later ACORN can say, “Congress already looked into and dismissed these accusations.”

Too bad the REPUBLICAN Congress didn’t do this.

The Obama Admin has taken that tactic nationwide.

Would this be like the Janet Reno style of investigation, that is, open an investigation and then refuse to discuss it because it is an ongoing investigation?

It’s not an April fool joke, I had read about this last week. Now I’m going to play devils advocate here. Conyers has an ego as big as his wife. I wrote the Congressman, although I’m not in his district, and congratulated him for taking on such a powerful group. I brought up possible RICO violations and his pursuit into the voter registration fraud. I’m suggesting that everyone here do the same. Make him think that this is a popular move. Stroke his feathers, pull a little reverse psychology.

I want to know what there is to weight. The evidence that this org is knee deep in voter fraud and other nefarious activities is overwhelming. It is time to indict the leadership of Acorn across the USA and it is waaaay past time to tie Bozo to them and impeach him for funding a criminal organization, along with indicting the legislators who voted for the funding via the porkulus package.
