Schindler Family Attends Mass for Terri Schiavo Hosted by Ave Maria University

St. Petersburg, FL (LifeNews.com) -- The Schindler family attended a special Mass on Tuesday, which marked the fourth anniversary of the painful starvation and dehydration euthanasia death of Terri Schiavo. Ave Maria University, a Florida-based Catholic college, hosted the mass, which saw the entire Schindler family attend.

Bob and Mary Schindler, Terri's parents, joined their other children Bobby Schindler and Suzanne Vitadamo for a ceremony in Terri's honor.

As the Schindlers prayed with participants for other disabled people who face the same euthanasia concerns, they placed a picture of Terri on her wedding day on the altar and joined more than 400 people in remembering her life.

The Mass was part of the International Day of Prayer and Remembrance for Terri Schindler Schiavo that the Schindler family jointly co-sponsors with the Terri Schiavo foundation and Priests for Life.

The two organizations established this day last year to foster education, prayer, and activism regarding discrimination against the disabled.

"God is using Terri to impact the world in a very special way," Bobby Schindler told the News Press.

Thomas Monaghan, founder and chancellor of Ave Maria University, told the newspaper the college was happy to help with the ceremony.

“We're very big on pro-life,” he said. “Our purpose is to fight evil and pro-life is center stage, and that’s where we want to be.”

Fr. Frank Pavone, who was with Bobby and Suzanne at Terri’s bedside as she died, recalls that painful day and the support from pro-life advocates and others.

"As we consoled Terri and prayed with her, what I felt most strongly was the presence of countless people around the world who, by their love, prayers, and tears, accompanied Terri and her family through those difficult days," he said. "I am confident that these same individuals, families, and Churches will want to observe Terri’s Day."

I don't remember any Democrat, Independent or third party malcontent standing with the Shindlers in front of the cameras day after day and supporting their effort, but I do remember Republicans being there and attempting to move legislation that would have stopped her murder.

Yeah, I know, it's never enough. They should have stormed the hospital! Give me break. Why didn't all you computer heroes form a posse and save her? Better to scream, "RINO!" and run away.

Hey, don’t get me wrong, but something tells me that if Ronald Reagan would’ve been our Governor, he would’ve sent them in to retrieve her.

I’m not blasting Jeb, but letting the media dictate the situation? That’s not a very executive move. Dare I say, it seemed the cowardly decision.

I loved Jeb. I made the effort to make sure he got elected, and at the time, I wasn’t make a huge effort to vote at the local levels.

Jeb did many great things for our state. One of our best Governors ever, far better than “walkin Lawton” Chiles or Bob “blowfish” Graham.

Jesse Jackson prays with Schiavo parents outside hospice

Civil rights activist lobbying Florida Senate to save Terri

PINELLAS PARK (FBW)-Calling the Terri Schiavo situation "one of the most profound moral and ethical issues of our time," civil rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson prayed with Bob and Mary Schindler and their family today in Pinellas Park, spending a few hours outside the hospice where Terri Schiavo, 41, is in her 12th day of a court-ordered starvation.

Under a sweltering Florida sun, Jackson told dozens of reporters he has been watching and praying from a "distance," but finally made the trip when the Schindler family called.

"I've come quickly and I've come gladly," Jackson said, calling on a bi-partisan approach to find a solution to what he said is a dilemma over a healthcare issue.

The Schiavo issue has focused the world's attention on end-of-life issues, Jackson said, and as she lay dying of starvation and dehydration inside the hospice, she is the "singular person that brings clarity" to the issue.

"There are congregations of people coming together to pray for her who ordinarily wouldn't pray together," Jackson said.

Bobby Schindler Jr. (center) tells reporters retired Catholic chaplain, Thaddeus Malanowski, was threatened with arrest for seeking to give Terri Schiavo communion each day until she dies. Michael Schiavo, Terri's husband and guardian, has refused the family's request.

Jackson said he called members of the Florida Senate and asked them to work on a solution, although the body has twice rejected legislation offered by Sen. Daniel Webster, R-Winter Garden. The Florida House adopted a bill March 17 sponsored by Rep. Dennis Baxley, R-Ocala, only to have similar legislation stall in the Senate.

Jackson contacted the senators - who he declined to name - after praying with Schindler family members in a thrift store across from the hospice where the family has been staying on and off since March 18. That was the day when, acting under court order, hospice workers removed Schiavo's feeding and hydration tube and began a process which medical experts have predicted will lead to her death at any time.

Barred from visiting Terri by Michael Schiavo, whom Jackson said also declined to pray with him about the situation, Jackson said he believes there is evidence that Terri's life can still be preserved and that there could be a legal remedy.

So far, Terri's plight has been pleaded in state and federal courts, and has been to the U.S. Supreme Court and back several times. Congress acted more than a week ago to request a full review in federal court, but judges have found that the issues lie within state court jurisdiction.

"Things are not now what they were a week ago," Jackson said. "You can't hide behind the law and not have mercy. It takes the law and mercy."

Describing Terri's situation, Jackson said she is not on a breathing machine, or did she already have an illness that would have led to her death if the feeding tube had not been removed.

"Unless we are anxious for her to die, we must not be this callous about human life," Jackson said.

Bob Schindler told reporters that although Terri is "failing" she looks "pretty good" under the circumstances. He said her bodily functions are still working.

"You can still see the impact 12 days without food and water is having," Bob Schindler said. "I pray to God that she continues to have the strength to go on. …It's not too late to save her."

Mary Schindler, who has spoken only briefly to the press in the past week, pleaded with state lawmakers to do all they can to save her daughter.

"Please, please pass this new bill," Mary Schindler said, pausing briefly to look down. "Terri is still fighting; she is still alive she's trying with all her might. She does not want to die."

In a new development late this afternoon at the hospice, Thaddeus Malanowski emerged from the hospice and said he had been told he may not administer communion to Terri—and was threatened with arrest if he proceeds to administer the sacrament.

Terri, as a Roman Catholic, has the responsibility and right to receive communion once a day, said Malanowski, especially since her death is imminent.

“Every citizen in this country has a right to their religious practices and beliefs,” Malanowski told reporters. He said Michael Schiavo had forbidden the practice to continue.

Bobby Schindler, Terri’s brother, said he was told by hospice personnel that since Terri had received a drop of consecrated wine—which Catholics believe becomes the actual blood of Christ--through her feeding tube just before it was disconnected March 18, and on Easter Sunday, Michael Schiavo had fulfilled his obligation to a court order on the matter issued by Sixth Circuit Court Judge George Greer.

Schindler said he believes “only God knows” if Terri is in danger of passing away soon, but said, “we all know Terri is dying.”

Malanowski confirmed, “We think her condition may be getting worse.”

Paul O’Donnell, a Franciscan monk from Minnesota who is a family spokesperson, said he believes “no court, no congress, can tell another human being” how to practice their religion.

“This is not a legal issue,” O’Donnell said. “No court should have any authority.” He called it a religious liberty issue and said people who believe in the separation of church and state should be alarmed at this turn of events.

No problem. :) I was just a little confused about what had happened, and how. Things can develop quickly at times when one can't see another's face, or hear the tone of their voice.

I'm a little tired today and have found myself reading and rereading posts before I can adequately understand what is being said. :)

"Abortion is a Blessing" (New Dean of Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge)

The Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge has unanimously elected a new dean, Dr. Katherine Ragsdale.

Chris Johnson at the Midwest Conservative Journal posts:

How radically pro-abortion is Katie Rags? This radically pro-abortion:

"And when a woman becomes pregnant within a loving, supportive, respectful relationship; has every option open to her; decides she does not wish to bear a child; and has access to a safe, affordable abortion - there is not a tragedy in sight -- only blessing. The ability to enjoy God's good gift of sexuality without compromising one's education, life's work, or ability to put to use God's gifts and call is simply blessing.

These are the two things I want you, please, to remember - abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Let me hear you say it: abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done.

"I Just Can't Take it Any More": Thanks to 40 Days for Life, Woman Wants Out of Abortion Business

April 1, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - I won't tell you where this is happening, but there is a woman we know of who's pondering a career change.

An abortion center employee has been talking to the 40 Days for Life prayer volunteers outside of her workplace - and she wants out!

Her message was simple - she just couldn't take it any longer. It was time to look for a new job.

She asked the vigil participants to pray for her. She said she couldn't simply quit her job, because she needs the income. Her prayer request was that she be able to find a suitable position elsewhere so she could give her notice at the clinic.

She also said the prayers of the vigil participants have a definite impact at the clinic. "When there are prayers happening outside, she said the tone of what happens inside changes," the local campaign coordinator told me. "Everyone is aware of their presence, and she for one, can no longer pretend that what is happening is OK."

There are women in Carson City, Nevada who "can't take it any longer" either. Because of 40 Days for Life, they've learned the shocking truth that the ob/gyn practice they go to for routine health care also does abortions. . .

American Right to Life: The Ann Coulter Hang Ups

Ultra-conservative Christian talk-radio hosts are taking a new approach to get their message out — ambushing right-wing pundit Ann Coulter for supporting 2008 GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. Absolutist anti-abortion activists accuse Romney of being “willing to sacrifice children for your vote.”

The Denver-based American Right to Life Action (RTL) leads the charge against Coulter with a YouTube video that shows excerpts of Coulter’s on-air radio freak-outs and calls on the acid-tongued author to apologize and retract her support for Romney. . .

Culture of death alive and kicking

On this the fourth anniversary of the court-ordered, barbaric death of brain-injured Terri Schiavo, it is painfully clear the culture of death is alive and kicking:

Voters, judges and legislators around the globe continue to ignore the truth that all human life has intrinsic value and, instead, aid those seeking to bump off the inconvenient elderly and disabled.

Washington and Montana joined Oregon in legalizing physician-assisted suicide.

California now allows nurse-assisted suicide of the "terminally ill" by means of dehydration and starvation. . .

We are your bad conscience.

How long will it be before the culture of death actually starts using terms like "useless eaters"?

Dignitas founder plans assisted suicide of healthy woman

The founder of the Swiss assisted suicide clinic Dignitas was criticised yesterday after revealing plans to help a healthy woman to die alongside her terminally ill husband.

Ludwig Minelli described suicide as a “marvellous opportunity” that should not be restricted to the terminally ill or people with severe disabilities. Critics said that the plans highlighted the risks of proposals to legalise assisted suicides in Britain for people in the final stages of a terminal illness.

The Dignitas clinic in Zurich claims to have assisted in the deaths of more than 100 Britons. The Zurich University Clinic found that more than a fifth of people who had died at Dignitas did not have a terminal condition.

Mr Minelli said that anyone who has “mental capacity” should be allowed to have an assisted suicide, claiming that it would save money for the NHS. . .

“Without fear or intimidation” ( Gov't may try to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions. )

A group representing Catholic hospitals and health care facilities in California, noting that “pressure has been especially acute” in the state to force Catholic institutions to violate their moral values, has called on the Obama Administration to give up its attempt to repeal federal “conscience clause protection for hospitals and health care workers.”

"The conscience protections contained in federal law are a civil right for all hospitals and health care workers," said William J. Cox, president of the Sacramento-based Alliance of Catholic Health Care in a statement issued yesterday. “The regulation that the Administration seeks to repeal is necessary for preserving those rights and making sure that health care workers can perform their duties without fear or intimidation."

Chuck Colson: Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue -- Designer Babies

Mr. and Mrs. Jones want a baby. They visit a fertility clinic and announce: “We want a boy—blond hair and blue eyes, please. We want him to be at least six feet tall, good at sports and have great musical ability.”

“No sweat,” the doctor says. Nine months later, baby Logan is born.

But for Logan’s parents, things don’t work out quite the way they expected. Despite his outstanding physique, Logan has no interest in sports. He likes to write poetry instead. As for music—yes, he’s good at it, his genes have seen to that—but he’d much rather spend his time designing model airplanes.

Logan’s parents are furious. They paid good money for a son who would make them proud on the athletic field and in the concert hall! Plus—the final insult—Logan dyed his blonde hair purple.

While this is not a true story, of course—but it could be soon enough. A Los Angeles fertility clinic now offers testing for “cosmetic selection.” The procedure is known as pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. It involves removing a cell from an embryo and testing it for desired physical traits.

According to Dr. Jeff Steinberg, who runs the clinic, parents can choose the sex of their baby, and also pick out junior’s hair and eye color. The babies will, of course, be free of inherited diseases. Dr. Frankenstein—I mean, Dr. Steinberg—checks for those, as well.

Dr. Gillian Lockwood, a British fertility expert, has a question for Steinberg. “What,” she wants to know, “are you going to do with all those other embryos that turn out like me to be ginger [haired] with green eyes?”

The answer is that embryos who don’t make the grade are destroyed—or sold to medical researchers. . .
