If Texas were, in fact, able to secede, it would become the retirement haven of the world immediately and that would include all the money that retirees have in their nest eggs.
In truth, it’s an ok place. Lots of good, fresh seafood at very reasonable prices and lots of steak and BBQ also at very reasonable prices. Lots of shoreline and some islands to boot. Lots of good MX food but, unfortunately, an awful lot of illegals.
Except MT. And we're thinkin' about it too.

yeah, i lived in texas for awhile...and i might be able to believe that they were this conservative if they were a little tougher on all the illegals they have running around there and embrace. For god sake they’ve all but given up english in favor of spanish!

Personally I would like to see all 50 states enact such legislation. then kick all the feds out August 2, and force them all back onto the 10 square mile patch of swamp in DC. That would be loverly.

Now Montana, there’s an idea! I had no idea Montana had a secession clause, I thought it was only Texas... In fact, due to the location (not between two hostile nations if successful in seceding), and a variety of other factors, Montana is much more attractive to me than Texas (no offense Texans...).
