The thing about fear is that you can see it. For an insight as to what the left today fears most, witness its attempted political assassination of Eric Cantor.
The 45-year-old Virginia congressman came to Washington in 2001, and by last year had been unanimously elected Republican Whip, under Minority Leader John Boehner. In recent months, Mr. Cantor has helped unify the GOP against much of President Barack Obama's agenda, in particular his blowout $787 billion stimulus, and yesterday, his blowout $3.6 trillion budget.
He's also one of the GOP's up-and-coming talents. Along with Wisconsin's Paul Ryan, or California's Kevin McCarthy, he represents a new guard, one that's sworn off earmarks and brought the conversation back to fiscal responsibility and economic opportunity. They've focused on party outreach, and are popular with younger voters and independents. They are big fund-raisers, part of a drive to recruit and elect more reformers. And they are on the rise.
All of which threatens the left. Democrats know their current dominance in Washington is in no small part due to public disillusionment with the GOP. They are also aware that their current tax-and-spend governance is creating plenty of opportunities for that opposition to remake itself. Thus the furious campaign -- waged by every blog, pundit, union, 527, and even the White House -- to kneecap Republicans who might help lead a makeover. Mr. Cantor is the top target.
This kicked off after the GOP's unanimous vote against the stimulus, which Democrats saw as an opening to brand Mr. Cantor as the public face of partisan opposition to the "bipartisan" president. The Virginian has in fact publicly reached out to the White House, and has been deeply involved in producing alternatives to administration policies. Never let the facts get in the way of a good smear.

Another “historical first” for BO is that he’s the first president with his own private army of jackbooted thugs to help people “get their minds right”.
That's true: I guess you could say that "entirely" is certainly "no small part"...
Obama has his own idiot parade running his hit squad.
Stalinist thugs!
Cantor should push back, calling out Obama from the well and ask Louis Cypher where are is BC, his college records, medical records etc. This might start the ball rolling against this jackbooted marxist.
Cantor could also ask why Frank, Dodd, Raines, Johnson and Gorelick aren’t being investigated by the justice department for causing the mortgage meltdown. The Republicans need to start engaging in smashmouth politics and call a spade a spade. Those people are crooks, and with AIG and Fannie Mae, old Louis Cypher is right up there with them.
The Republicans need to start engaging in smashmouth politics and call a spade a spade.
They won’t because they are all buddies behind the scenes...i have no faith that the pubs are going to do squat about any of the crap going on in DC...most likely they are ass deep in corruption themselves.
Yes, but he should remember he is just a mortal, like Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot, Hitler, those leaders he so admires.
Those kids who follow him now will not remember him twenty years from now, just ask Bill Clinton. He too was worshipped by sheeple.
The United States of Chicagoland
So far, they have targeted private citizens with ease. Joe the Plumber, the AIG execs and their families, Rush Limbaugh, Eric Cantor, and more. They show us every day who they are and what they are capable of no matter how much they smile for the cameras.
YOu forgot Cuomo, Clinton and Schumer.
They're wasting their time. Cantor's blowing it all by himself.
“Present!”
Your posts are most interesting-—brief-—but interesting(/snic).
AMEN!
No he isn’t.
I’m not done. He got every single Repub to vote against the stimulus.
1st Bailout - Yes
AIG Bonus tax - Yes
Budget - “Present”
That’s three strikes. Trust someone who lives in his district.
Thats three strikes. Trust someone who lives in his district.
I'm in his district, too. I got a letter from him justifying his vote on the AIG bonus. I'll post it later. The upshot was "two wrongs make a right". The wrong of the bailout plus the wrong of taxing the bonuses somehow makes everything all right.
I'm done with Cantor. He's drinking deeply from the Kool Aid well.
I'm disappointed with a few of Cantor's recent votes, too, but in the aggregate, he has been/is a good Congresscritter. When he runs against the RAT-du-jour in 2010, I'll be supporting him 100%.
Regards...Dave
Here’s his letter to me explaining his vote (all typos are mine). You tell me if hasn’t become a socialist pod person.
My feeling is that he’s saying two wrongs will make a right if we vote on it!
My original letter to him questioned why on earth he would vote for something that penalizes specific people for something that was legal (those bonuses were contractual) at the time? And further, the bailout package specifically allowed them to be paid. I don’t think he really answered my question. But then, I think he’s getting IV injections of Kool aid now.

Dear iceskater:
Thank you for contacting me to express your views regarding the use of taxpayer dollars for AID employee bonuses. I appreciate hearing from you and having the benefit of your views.
I am fundamentally opposed to using any taxpayer dollars to pay for executive bonuses at AIG. My number one responsibility is to the taxpayer, and when taxpayer funds have been spent recklessly, we have a duty to recoup the losses. Unfortunately, the Democrat majority blocked Republicans from being included in a bi-partisan amnner to formulate a workable solution. When Republicans put together a a more responsible plan, authored by Rep. Erik Paulsen, to recoup the taxpayer dollars that went to AIG executive bonuses, Democrats blocked that bill from coming to the floor for a vote.
Therefore, all Members were faced with only two options: vote against getting taxpayer dollars back or vote in favor of the majority’s flawed attempt to recover these funds. That is why I voted in favor of H.R. 1586 - because it was the only way that the majority would allow us to recover taxpayer funds that were being used for bonuses given to AIG executives. I am disappointed that this is the only strategy that the majority would consider.
H.R. 1586 passed the House of Representatives by a bi-partisan vote of 328-93 on March 19, 2009. This bill has since been referred to the Senate where it awaits further consideration. You may be assured that I will keep your views on this legislation in mind should it come before me again in the House of Representatives.
Again, thank you for contacting me. For your convenience, you may receive further information from me on issues important to the 7th District at http://cantor.house.gov/. Your thoughts and comments are always welcome.
With kind regards, I am
Sincerely,
Eric Cantor.
I’m inclined to agree with you, that is a classic non-answer answer.
I am soooo disappointed with him. Until the last few months, I really thought he was a principled conservative. I can’t believe that anymore. (I told him that in my letter, too.)
One advantage for having a dim congresscritter, no worries about being disappointed :)
Their goal is to make certain faces the "face" of their opposition. They want Limbaugh to be the face of the Republican Party, or Cantor, or Joe Wurtzelbacher, or whoever their target of the day is. And their ally the MSM will give free advertising time/space and make sure the picture is an unflattering one.
This is one gambit that the 'Pubs have to answer in kind. Make Bawney Fwank or Teddy Kennedy or Helen Thomas the "face" of the 'Rats. We won't have the MSM to help us, so any kind of advertising and publicity will have to be self-funded.
LOL - thank God for small things, I guess.
“Budget - Present
show me where.
My bad. I was going off of someone else’s comment. It was salary conrol.
http://michellemalkin.com/2009/04/01/10-house-republicans-for-arbitrary-salary-control/
What happened to the promised “bipartisanship”?
I don’t know what happened but I do not believe Cantor supported a salary control bill given his history and leadership. Let’s not fall into the smear machine Strassel was talking about.

He didn’t support it. He voted “present.”
Okay, Eric Cantor is NOT a socialist pod person.

BTW...when's the next RTM?
:)
I’ve been thinking we need an RTM soon.
Before or after the Tea Party?
Post Tea Party sounds fun...MUD
Yes.
Are Richmond FReepers planning on meeting up anywhere? Regards...Dave
Let me know where you folks are gonna be. I am going to the DC party that morning. If I don’t get arrested I am planning on being back in time for the Richmond party.
Regards...Dave
Yeah, I got it. Gonna have a couple friends with me too. I’ll be watching here between now and then. FReepmail me with additional info, if you could.
