Pro-Abortion Journalist Chris Matthews To Speak At St. Joseph's

Pro-Abortion Journalist Chris Matthews To Speak At St. Joseph's

School Chooses Chris Matthews To Give Commencement Address By Chris Freind, The Bulletin Friday, April 03, 2009 Ignoring the controversy surrounding Notre Dame’s honoring of pro-abortion Barack Obama as its commencement speaker, Saint Joseph’s University has followed suit. It will grant an honorary degree to broadcast journalist Chris Matthews at the university’s 2009 commencement ceremonies.

Despite Mr. Matthew’s Catholic education, having graduated from the College of the Holy Cross, he is widely regarded as a strong supporter of abortion rights, and was unabashed in his admiration of Mr. Obama’s positions.

Support for abortion is antithetical to the Church’s teachings.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops opposes the practice of hosting speakers who are outspoken against Catholic doctrine.

“The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles,” said the bishop’s conference in a statement. “They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”

Calls to Saint Joseph’s President Fr. Timothy Lannon went unreturned.

Be sure to thank him for his efforts and let Fr. Lannon know of your disgust -- which is precisely what I intend to do.

Probably not, but you can be sure he will be spewing all manner of left wing nonsense and idealogy that is an insult to the Catholic faith. Most likely he’ll get a standing ovation. One of the many reasons I left the Cathoilic Church after 35 years and 16 years of Catholic schooling. I didn’t find Christ there.

I don’t give a rat’s rear end if he is there to speak about abortion. Catholic institutions, or any other religious instituion, should not be honoring pro abortionist like Chris Matthew period.

Abortion Catholics being honored and help up as role models by American Catholic institutions is nothing new. What's new is that a handful of bishops are actually speaking out about it.

Why leave the Church due the all-to-human shortcomings of her leaders? Didn’t Our Lord predict as such? Christ was there all the time, but you’ll set yourself up for constant disappointment if you depend on the hierarchy for that presence.

You obviously were looking for something besides Christ and by leaving only ended up committing spiritual suicide. That's a shame.

what is going on in the catholic religion for crying out loud

The Pope needs to get every priest and every person who is in charge of these catholics schools and tell them to get back to teaching about their religion instead of hiring liberals so they can brainwash these kids

The north east should be the most red of all this country and yet it is the most blue

try to figure that out..Catholics keep voting time and time again for the party which is totally against their faith

either these people do not follow their religion or are just plain ignorant and yes I know it is not all

Like the Jews who also vote against their best interests, these CINOs have traded in their Catholicism for the Religion of Liberalism- now referred to as Statism, courtesy of Mark levin.

very true indeed

I left the episcopal church because of the homo and how some are now becoming religious socialists .

Why do Jews and Catholics for the most part actually go against their own faith, the amount of times I have said you cannot be catholic on a Sunday and a Dem on a Monday.

It still goes though their ears instead of sticking in their heads.

Yes there are other faiths but for the most part it is not on a scale like Jews and Catholics.

this post in no way is trying to disrespect those two religions either before I get jumped on

Read Goodbye / Good Men by Rose. It explains how the leftists took over my Catholic Church.....and still control the American faction till this day.

Unfortunatley, as a Villanove grad, I have to agree. It is indeed a shame. Nova honored Noam Chomsky with a “lifetime achievement” award a few years back. I haven’t given a dollar since. Marxist, anti-American creep.

We are looking at the great sifting. Go read Michael O’Brien’s latest and see if you are reading it the same way I am.

“His term of office is now underway and he is facing numerous domestic and foreign crises, including the financial collapse, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and perhaps soon a war with Iran. These, along with the monetary problems between the U.S.A. and China, may prove to be too great an obstacle, and could even bring about Obama’s defeat at the next presidential election. Alternatively, he could become the “Great Facilitator”, negotiator, peace-maker, working marvels throughout the world as he moves from one seemingly unsolvable problem to another. At this early stage, it is difficult to say which it will be.

What is undeniable is that in his domestic policies Obama is pursuing his promised agenda of radical changes to American laws—for example, those that until now have provided some protection for pre-birth children. Now, all resistance is to be swept away,”

Abortion aside, Matthews supports the very policies which measure worth in financial terms. The Catholic Church opposes socialism because it puts the focus on materialism instead of true value (i.e., sanctity of life.) Matthews will not have to mention abortion rights because they are a natural byproduct of his philosophy.
