PRAGUE (AFP) The Czech Republic's prime minister hopes to persuade US President Barack Obama not to abandon a controversial missile shield project in Eastern Europe when he visits Prague this weekend.
"I will tell him that we, unlike him, are complying with the ratification" of diplomatic and military contracts on the missile shield signed in 2008, outgoing Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek said recently on the Czech Radio.
Washington's new policy of dialogue with Moscow has increased anxiety among Prague and Warsaw leaders who support a radar base on Czech soil and anti-missile interceptors in Poland despite loud protests from Russia.
"I would say the Americans are not yet completely clear on the issue" of the radar and that Obama "will tell us they are not giving the project up but they will not rush the way the previous administration did," said Topolanek.

The Czech’s saw whose butt Obama wants to kiss with that letter to Russia.
I keep saying Obama like he is a seperate entity. I am terrified this man is in charge of making decisions that affect me and my family.
He's Comrade Obama now- cancel the Czechs!
“I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced we act for ourselves and not for others; this, in my judgment, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home.” —George Washington
Rot’s O’ Ruck Czechs.
Obama wants to talk . Not defend.
Back in the day, Ronaldus Magnus had to freakin' brow beat European allies into hosting missiles. But that was "Old Europe," wasn't it? Now we have European allies in New Europe begging for an American military presence.
Everybody else is running towards communism, while the Czech Republic seems to be about the only country which is trying to get away from it!! Their President Klaus is a pretty tough cookie who doesn’t mince words!
The Czechs saw enough of communism when it was forced on them from 1948-1989. They know it reduced their prosperous, free nation into a poor, oppressed, crumbling shadow of its former self. They've also rebuilt it since regaining their freedom. If anyone knows the fallacy of what BO proposes, it's the Czechs. Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary aren't running toward communism either.
Good luck with that. Obama is a plant.
