This is good because it will teach those FL Cubans who voted for Obama a good lesson, or will it? They’re still for Obama because “he cares”.

If Americans in Cuba become a problem, Castro will just restrict the issuance of visas. And what about reciprocity for more visitors from Cuba, many of whom will be working for Cuban intelligence?

Personally, I hate to see our tourist money being used to prop up the regime. I lived two years in a Communist country and visited many more so I don't need to see Cuba's version.

The embargo and travel ban is what has been propping up his regime for almost 50 years. They don’t require tons of money to exist. The poor and hungry are easier to control

He is reliant completely on propaganda, because Reality is a nightmare.

The people of Cuba understand what the reality is just like the East Germans and Poles did. That is why they risk their lives to escape from these hellholes. The regime is completely reliant on being a police state to continue to exist.

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama plans to lift longstanding U.S. restrictions on Cuba, a senior administration official said, allowing Cuban-Americans to visit families there as often as they like and to send them unlimited funds.

Cuban Americans have been allowed travel to Cuba since around 1972.

I'm not sure when the travel rules prior to 2004 went into effect, but Cuban Americans were allowed to visit at will once a year for an unlimited time period, spend up to $160 dollar a day, and send up to $3000 every quarter to family.

After 2004 travel was restricted to once every three years for a two week period after filing an application and getting a license, daily expenses were lowered to $50, and the amount allowed to be sent to Cuban family members was changed to $300 every quarter.

There are a few other provisions, but those are the highlights.

As I remember it, the 2004 changes were met with anger by many Cubans in Miami.

I disagree. If the goal is to remove the Castros and the Commies from power, then I think we have pretty well established that the embargo has not worked. I think that it is time to try a new approach.

Making murder illegal has not worked either - there are still murders. But we do what we can. I have no problem trying something else in addition to the embargo though. But I see no reason to lift it since it puts some pressure on the communists which can't hurt.

I think if the Cuban people start seeing American tourists wandering around, they’re gonna start saying “Hey, why the hell can’t we have what they have?!”

Better yet by seeing their prosperous brothers, sisters, and cousins who left 15-20-30 years ago with their latest electronic gizmos, money and clothes and talking about their 2 homes in the US.
