Gingrich Warns of Conservative 3rd Party in 2012
Friday, April 3, 2009 8:53 AM
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warns that conservatives could leave the GOP and form a third party in 2012 if Republicans dont do more to rein in government spending.
If the Republicans cant break out of being the right wing party of big government, then I think you would see a third party movement in 2012, Gingrich said during an address to students at the College of the Ozarks in Missouri.

Those who are diehard Republican and want to preserve the GOP will have to do more than chat and post to FR and other such sites. They are going to have to ivolve themselves in extensive letter-writing, door-knocking, and organizing to bring the Party back to its roots.
I, for one among many, believe that the upper crust of the GOP needs a scare. They need to be forced to feel that they and the whole party can be replaced.
No, they and the whole party actually need to be replaced.
Wonder if Newt has anyone in mind to be the nominee of this Conservative Party?
Sarah Palin, of course...... Hell’s not freezing over though....
As a lifelong conservative and a 40+ year Republican, I haven’t given up on the GOP yet.
But its getting close.
Sarah Palin, of course...... Hell’s not freezing over though....
Continuing the way they are going, and then making promises of change just before an election, WILL NOT work with me.
With all due apologies to Michael Medved, I believe the timing will be ripe for a conservative third party. The RINO party will continue to move towards the left to appease the demoncrats. Problme is that this might end up giving the Demoncraps the WH again. Someone needs to take the reins of the republican party before this country is flushed down the toilet by the Demoncraps.
Yeah, by then the Falcon party will have fifty members and $10,000.
They won’t listen. They don’t care. They don’t have to; we’ve seen to that!
BUT...I’m starting locally, and I advise anyone that listens to do the same. I’m working on local campaigns right now. We’re going to get a new County Executive, get all the smelly hippies OFF of our County Board, and we’re going to get rid of our very own ‘Ruth Bader Ginsburg’ judge (Shirley Abrahamson) if I have anything to say about it come April 7th.
The current ‘Poser in Chief’ that we’ve got? Why, just a few short years ago, he was merely a Community Organizer!
A more effective approach will be slow and steady to win the race for years to come.
Start locally, and move those people up nationally as they earn it. Concentrate on grooming our GOVERNORS for higher office; we have some very, very good ones in place right now.
It completely AMAZES me that the simple things I learned in the Army through the years about Command and Control and Promotions and LEADERSHIP completely escape the GOP we have these days. But, they escape most people I deal with day in and day out. *SHRUG*
Michael Steele? *SPIT* Let’s get real.
This Nation was founded by people no more important or smart or wealthy than we are. Let’s get back to basics.
Well, I can dream, can’t I? ;)
A strong conservative party will depend on the right leader.
Gingrich? Maybe he’s testing the waters with this “warning”.
We are going to have to be careful in choosing our new “Leader of the Conservatives”; if the bad guys put in a charismatic sleeper we are doomed.
But how does one vet a “conservative leader”?
Newt at least has the Contract With America on his resume.
I appreciate Newt’s celebrity status and Beltway “gravitas” on the issue, but it’s very likely that Newt is in it for himself, not for advancing Conservatism.
Of course, there may not be a New York Times in 2012...
> Wonder if Newt has anyone in mind to be the nominee of this Conservative Party?
With his cave-in on global warming and the fact that he has the morals of a depraved alley-cat, that would be pretty funny.
You have the Democrat Party as a whole
Then the Republican Party and a third party
Yeah that will work...NOT
Unless you want to loose to the Democrats.
Those crusty old blue blooded, elitist, liberal dinosaurs are irrelevant elephants and are impeding the path that we need to take our nation.
“warns”? wtf
Vote out the entire Congress before we’re down the toilet bowl!
Well, get ready for “40 years of wandering in the wilderness” of politics then... LOL...
The RINOs are the ones that need to exit the GOP. In fact, they left the GOP years ago. They just need to make it official.
You said — Vote out the entire Congress before were down the toilet bowl!
—
Ummm..., that’s you, me, Free Republic and “who else”? LOL..
In other words, it sounds great, but it will never happen....
You said — Those crusty old blue blooded, elitist, liberal dinosaurs are irrelevant elephants and are impeding the path that we need to take our nation.
—
Ummm..., you may be forgetting the plurality of almost 10 million more votes who voted in Obama. They might have to be “contended with” also... :-)
I agree.
You said — Yeah that will work...NOT
—
Yeah, take my own gun and shoot my own foot... LOL...
Vote out??
Newt, you created a conservative second party in 1994. What did you do with it?
You said — As a lifelong conservative and a 40+ year Republican, I havent given up on the GOP yet.
—
Yep, and precisely the reason why this will result in the Democrats winning from now on.... (can someone say H. Ross Perot?).... LOL...
unfortunately, that mat be true...
IF he, were to disavow, running for WH...
he could help mightily.
Yep!
All RATs and RINOs need to go!
He’s probably right, I’m done holding my nose. I admit defeat. There just aren’t enough of us strict-constructionists left.
And then what? Leave them where they are to continue running America into the ground? The hell with that. I will never again give the GOP so much as the sweat off my....
The newt lost all my respect when he sat on that settee with Plastic Pelousy and touted ‘global warming’!
Been working on local campaigns since 1988. That's where it all starts and if you try to skip over for the highest levels only -- you lose.
I remember when Senator Patty Murray was making her first run beyond (school board)? The local Republican party was not great shakes then, and look at the result...
The new conservative leader should outline the platform of a third (replacement for the second) party by specifying what it stands for! And that leader should outline what wrath is in store for those in the new ‘conservative’ party who do not follow that platform of ideas.
A 3rd party or a takeover of the GOP by a Conversative Group?
Why not?
The leftist took over the Democratic Party!
It is no longer the party we used to work with! They used to have people that we can work with as sometimes they have a point! But no longer as they seems to be stone deaf to any proposals the GOP makes! And we have too many RINOS in the mix!
We may have to consider the 3rd Party if we can get enough support!
The RINO’s can just call themselves ‘LibDem’....as in the UK.
Under the current rules, and with the current personalities, the GOP is just as likely to nominate another RINO in 2012.
The RINO element hasn’t had the good grace to step aside since the 08 debacle. The open primaries and likely liberal interlopers in the selection process will really tilt the 12 convention to the “moderates”, maybe McCain will be renominated.
Unless the Republicans change the rules, score decisive victories especially in the 2008 primaries against McCain and Specter, Gingrich may be prophetic here.
(D) + (R) = Damn Rascals!
Newt sold the “conservatives” down the river when he did that disgusting press opportunity with Bill Clinton, to show that Newt was “just a regular guy”. Newt felt he had to make nice with BJ Clinton because the media had painted him and all conservatives as devils with horns. That was a HUGE mistake and the END of Mr. Gingrich.
A Conservative third party would never win the presidency, and practically guarantee the Democrats wining every time by splitting the center right vote between the GOP candidate and the Third Party candidate.
Now a third party that focused on only wining seats in the house and senate would be far more effective. Say a well funded and non fringe conservative third party were to develop and take say 100 House Seats and 9-10 senate seats. This would give a third party a tremendous amount of power as the two major parties would need the third party votes in order to pass legislation. The third party could leverage this to demand a conservative direction in legislation, especially in the house.
But this party would have to be well financed (at least $250 million in revenue), and have to be able to attract exceptional talent. No third party has ever came close to accomplishing this.
The US Constitution has been hijacked: the 2-party system or another party in the system won’t solve this mess.
EU and Nato and China are not going to support Obongo, so the rest of the world of allies and trade partners will drift along into their own self serving agendas, while the Resident has the ability to rule by fiat within the US. He will crush dissent ruthlessly, build socialism and nationalist control, consolidating his power base and eliminating opposition. Expect gun ban by executive order soon, and national service corps (ss), both by summer. Caps on salary by year end (min-wage up, new max-wage down).
The only difficult he will run into, if there is no anarchic backlash, is he will soon run out of other people’s money.
I don’t belong to a party.. I’m a republican..
I’m in. Where do I sign up?
I don’t need a Party, I’m a Conservative!
