yep...when you’re right...you’re right...

Reason should dictate that Oshama should NOT hold the podium at a central speech at the University since he holds contrary views to their basic beliefs.
Thanks again.
Mighty nice of you to say.
The Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
Well....... ???? Seems clear to me.
“Catholics?” God is offended by dissent.
Hence the rest of your comments are irrelevant & erroneous to this subject.
And at this point, I will just accept your “you win” acknowledgment and move on because you are opining about a subject that you obviously know very little about.
It can’t be stated enough. The UND is not a “Catholic University”. It is a “University in the Catholic TRADIDION”. As a previous poster noted, the UND stopped being a true “Catholic” University long ago.
The Pope (and the Church) jave already spoken on this issue in Canon Law.
Saying, in my paraphrasing, that no college or university sahll honor anyone who supports abortion.
Maybe someone has a direct link.
Please don’t use the words Obama and Messiah in the same sentence.
The only Messiah is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
Is Father Jenkins answerable to no one in the Catholic hierarchy?
Why does his decison outweigh others higher up that are responsible for Notre Dame—i.e. the Board of Trustees, etc?
He answers to a Board of Trustees. Also the Superior of the Holy Cross Fathers.
Are the students themselves, angry about this? Does anyone know?
Let me know when the Catholic Church denies Nancy Pelosi communion. (/sarcasm)
Thanks for the info. Do you know if they have they weighed in on this yet?
When I saw "the Catholics" in your post, I bristled, too. I read on, and came to the impression that you're a decent guy, and one of good will.
IMO, when someone paints with too wide a stroke, negative encounters ensue. The Catholic Church has been infested with its share of liberal dissidents, as has other Christian denominations, and to say "the Catholics," or "the Episcopalians," doesn't do justice to the reality of the situation.
This Rev. John Jenkins has CINO written all over him, and those who are protesting the Obama invitation are the authentic Catholics. Whatever rationalizations Fr. Jenkins can provide to defend his position do not diminish the fact that he is being disobedient to the American Bishops concerning an issue of extreme gravity. The real Catholics know this instinctively or factually, are outraged accordingly, and fighting this blatant battle in the war of good vs. evil. IOW, they are not rolling over and playing dead by any means.
As far as FR goes, it's a great forum for discussion, debate, and joining forces with like minded people of different faiths/denominations for prayer and/or action. However, I have seen debates and discussions deteriorate into ad hominum attacks of Catholics by *some* non-catholics. I've also seen Catholic threads infiltrated by *some* non-catholics, and break out into flame wars. Hence the understandable sensitivity of Catholics who perceive another attack coming on.
I sincerely hope this post clarifies a few things, and that all will go forward in truth and mutual respect. :o)
Nancy’s Bishop in CA warned her in no uncertain terms that if she were to approach the altar for Holy Communion, she most definitely will be denied.
I’m pleasantly surprised ... dare I say heartened ... to learn that.
Thanks for your post.
There are plenty of people organizing demonstrations, prayer vigils, signing petitions, writing letters. You just aren't seeing it on TV. That's the way the media operates.
So before you attack Catholics as not doing enough in protest, perhaps you should do a bit more investigating.
