Future Greenpeace intern plans to walk more than 400 miles to San Francisco in June. She wants to teach people to be eco-friendly.

Each day, 22-year-old Ashley Michaels straps on her backpack and starts walking north along West Coast Highway near her home in Newport Beach, continuing along the boardwalks that run through Huntington Beach and Seal Beach.
The roughly 20-mile walk, which takes her to the southern edge of Long Beach, takes her about four or five hours. Then she turns around and walks back. Michaels’ daily trek is preparation for a more than 400-mile walk she plans to begin in June along the California Costal Trail to San Francisco, where she’ll begin a 12-week internship with the environmental group Greenpeace.
“I really want to be an activist and learn how to teach people to be more eco-friendly,” she said.
Michaels hopes to raise about $6,500 through donations to fund her housing and travel expenses during her internship, where she will work with environmental activists to stop the clearcutting of North American forests for disposable tissue products.

It sounds as though she wants to continue traveling around the globe and has decided that Greenpeace is the cheapest way for a freeloader to get it done. She’s 22 and spent five years freeloading around Europe. She’s a waste of skin, IMHO.
Wow, this does it for me. Now I’m going to be “eco-friendly.” This will make SUCH a big difference in the climate. All the little birdies will come out to sing, the weather will be perpetually 70 degrees in the winter and 80 in the summer, the skies will be blue, the grass will be green, the rain will fall only at night and never on weekends, the filth-belching factories in China will suddenly start wafting only perfumes to the US, and our worries about global warming or global cooling or whatever the concern is this week will all go away. Just because this one little girl is walking for all of us. Isn’t that wonderful?

This will be terrible for the environment! And if she subsists on organic foods it will be even worse! If she really cares about the environment she should stay home and watch television and eat only generic cookies and spam obtained in bulk via infrequent, high-volume shopping trips to CostCo.

It's different in other parts of the world, but in North America the only time a forest will ever be clear cut is to contain an infestation of disease or parasites which if allowed to spread unchecked could threaten the health of the entire ecosystem.
A properly managed forest is a healthy forest, but the envirowackos don't care. All they know is that man is encroaching on the domain of sacred gaia - and they want it to stop.
She's no Giselle Bundchen, but she's not actually ugly. We can't all be as lovely as you doubtless are.
I never claimed to be lovely, but what I said is 99.99% factual. Thanks for the vote of confidence in my being ‘lovely’ but the last time I looked guys are handsome, flowers are lovely, (most) women are beautiful but she's definitely none of the three.

If she really wanted to do some “good”, she could walk from the top of Africa down to Zimbabwe and whack Robert Mugabe. That would save more people and formerly productive farms (oh, but I forgot, all the productive farms were run by white farmers. Can't have that.) than a leisurely stroll from Newport Beach to SF.
Maybe she could take a walk through Afghanistan and save a few fellow women from Islamic torture and mistreatment. I hope she makes it.
Me, I'm going to take a stroll through Manhattan and stop at all the outdoor restaurants and bars for world hunger and wine growers. That's a pretty noble cause to me.

Southern pine plantations are planted, harvested,
and replanted over and over and over again.

I believe it! Lived in NB back in the 70’s .. hardly any non-conservatives there then, tho I understand that’s changed. Kids get ideas of their own, rebel, etc. Could be a whole lot worse than this.

The funny thing about clear cut forests is that they grow back.
