The U.S. president is trying to mend fences with a Muslim world that felt it had been blamed by America for the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

You are so right. Mr Bush went out of his way to say this. Yet they still called him a madman, bigot, warmonger, etc. His successor says the same things and he is enlightened, a man of peace, etc etc.
