"I refer to myself as a modern survivalist, which means I dont do without," Spirko explained. "I have a nice TV; I have nice furniture. We are not living in the sticks, but I take all of these things very seriously."

He is gonna need those guns for when the folks that didn’t stock up or prepare come and try to take his.
He is going to need allies in arms — conservatives sticking together.
Networks are just as important, if not more so, than buying hardware & supplies right now.
Good article. It wasn’t biased and actually had some really good quotes from the ‘preppers’.
I am seriously thinking about one.
“Dallas Star Telegram”?
Note to all.....Big Mistake!
Why? Once the riots start everyone will have a nice big screen tv! :-)
I wonder if this man is the exception. Most of us in this Obama induced economy are just hanging in there for all we are worth.I wish we could afford to do as this fellow has done.Truth is ,keeping up with the mortgage ,utilities, other bills and still managing a little extra is taking all we have. Most of us are not as fortunate. Not complaining ,just a fact.Others who have lost jobs are in far worse shape.
I hope he has stocked ammo.He may need it.Times are going to be awfully ugly before this present administration is finished with the damage to America.
Like the smell of a coming storm...you can smell Dopey-Changey and his Commie/Islamic buddies coming for you, your family, your livihood, you guns, your religion and your sanity...
Reach out to your neighbors, I did, and I found about 10 of us (in the Bay Area, no less!) who all are locked, loaded and have food stores.
Like the wise Michael Savage said, “Don’t let them get the best of you...there are more of ‘us’ than ‘them’. The media makes you think there are so many whackos than sane people, when in fact, we far outnumber them, they just own the microphone in TV, movies and print media.
Who, after all, would follow instruction from the produce manager down at the local grocery just because he had 2 years in the Army in 1970? We would be localized as family and friend circles and the gubmint would be forming outside the city limits as a company fully equipped with helo's and tanks. We save our food stores and bulk up on ammo, but in reality we would probably be confronted with overwhelming force within a month.
Without forming a militia ahead of time, we really stand little chance of survival for more than a few days. The government's natural position would be to form a dictatorship( marshall law) and all liberties removed "for our own good". No courts, no police, no governmental organizations, to protect our liberties, in fact, they would be the enemy to liberty.
It's a topic no community would bring up, fearing labeling themselves as the next "Waco" location. I trust many people in my community, but in reality, they would be subject to the government as they are mayors and councilmen, sheriffs, police, ect. What would be their response to an illegal order?, ect.
I've been listening to some of his podcasts on and off for the past few months and he presents a lot of good ideas and details. He may get passionate every once in a while when he talks about certain things, but overall, he's a good source of information for those who want to be better prepared for certain events, but don't know how/where to start. - OB1
Good post. It is the nuts that are running the asylum.
If the government failed and there was chaos, food./water and guns/ammo would be the only real commodities that would be desired. Gasoline heat would also be necessary for travel but if the US military were deployed on the citizenry, we would be crushed like ants.
I hear many active and former military people are on our side, but as Commander in Chief, he could force them to engage citizenry, if “provoked”.
If you are referring to Jack Spirko, he's very stocked and ready. He also has a bug-out location some 20-30 miles from me in Arkansas.
Don't you believe it for a second.

Explain?
Do you really believe that the majority of our military personnel will obey an order to fire on their own countrymen?
Before I read this article... it’s going to cheer me up, right? :)
I'll leave it to you to study why it's unconstitutional for the US military to fire on civilians.

Good article—not sarcastic in the least. Growing up on a small working farm in Ohio, my family was always in survivalist mode. We never knew when the next storm would wipe out all of our crops/income. Canning in a sweltering kitchen in late summer or high-tailing it down into a frigid root cellar in mid-winter was no big deal. We didn’t build shelves for books, we built shelves to hold more home-canned goods. Practically everybody we knew collected gray water and even the vet was willing to barter services for goods. The loaded shotgun was above the door near where our Apple IIe computer sat. Almost all our friends and family lived like this And this was in the mid to late 80s. Guess most everybody got soft in the last 25 years. Me included. I’m now paying dearly to play catch up.
My post was really addressing that you should not be telling everyone under the sun, especially in a newspaper article, what you have. You are potentially putting your home on a "shopping list'.

No, I don’t...but if it came to that, nothing would surprise me, frankly.

Good article.

"Force" is a relative term. I'm not sure a real patriot could be forced to perform anti American acts. aka Patrick Henry.
Why are you giving up before the struggle even starts?
You're assuming that the majority of the military has been properly educated in the meaning and underpinnings of the US Constitution. I've been a teacher in the public schools for over 20 years. I'm one of the few that does not practice revisionism with a healthy dose of liberal bias injected. I teach in the 4th biggest school district in the nation. Now we know why the liberals slowly infested the education system over 40 years ago. If you don't know the what's and why's of your freedoms, you will be unlikely to lay down your life to preserve same.
You can get really good deals at beprepared.com. Their prices are fair and their shipping is good. If you can find others to buy with you, sometimes they have discounts on 6 cans or more.
Honeville Grains is also an excellent source. Their shipping is only $5.00!!
I’m with you. I can only spend a certain amount a month (it comes from my grocery budget) on storage stuff. Every month I buy one case of different storage meats from mredepot.com and then buy “sides” from Honeyville and Beprepared.com. Would you believe they sell freeze dried veges like brocolli and spinach, I was stoked when I saw that.
I recommend AAOOB Foods:
Christian company with great prices and great customer service.

Far from giving up, I'm just looking forward. If the bad guys think they will ransack me and mine, they will be piled high in the front yard, but what about a week from then? Another month from then? A year from then?
Our founders had the foresight to form militia's, but today that's a bad word or put off on the Nat Guard. What I'm saying is just having some water and ammo may not get us very far if we want the US to survive a dictatorship. Every man for himself will most likely end with just a bunch of dead men. If it weren't so, Cuba would be free, Venezuela would be free, ect, ect.
Just as an example, picture New Orleans after Katrina. What if the government WASN'T the law enforcer, but the law breaker. One of the first things they did was illegally confiscate weapons from law abiding citizens. What if it went far beyond that? Who would stand against the tyrants? There should be some sort of LOCAL militia plan so we DON"T NEED FEDERAL help. We just always talk about stocking up on ammo and guns every 4 or 8 years, but have NO plan. After IKE, our county judge closed the highways coming and going into Tyler county. We were angry at first, but I'm sure it stopped the rubberneckers, the looters, and the people looking to take our FEMA water and food. Several counties had people driving from place to place collecting free ice, water and MRE's that were needed at the time. Soon after, MRE's started to appear in the local papers for sale.
