'Pilot Took Off Running After Landing Plane'

(Turkish born. . .third paragraph discloses his name)

A pilot who allegedly stole a Cessna plane from a Canadian flight school and was pursued for hours across the Midwest by fighter jets, was taken into custody after he landed on a Missouri highway late today and took off running, an FBI spokesman said.

[. . .]

A college official told a local newspaper that it was believed the pilot was not a student at the school. [. . .]

"Apparently, somebody jumped over the fence and just jumped into an aircraft," Judi Maundrell, the college's vice president of academics and student services, told the Thunder Bay News Source. "It was sitting as usual parked on the ramp. They keys are in all the aircrafts because students are using them." link/a>

I’m stunned. Absolutely stunned. And mad!!

Why isn’t this guy and his plane a fresh, smoking hole somewhere?!?
Why doesn’t an F-16 have a freshly painted red maple leaf on it?!?

I understand that intel would want to talk with this guy, but after they figured out his personal history, its time to drop him like a bad habit, take HighRes pics of the crash zone, and past them all over the web with the caption: “Next?”.

What good is a 45 million dollar interdiction fighter if you don’t use it every now and again?

After 9/11, I never thought this type of thing would happen again. Amazing!

I am afraid we as a nation have not learned from history. Which means I am afraid that we as a nation are doomed to repeat it.

Story says they are left in airplanes for ‘students’. Thing they might change the policy?

Two, if he's not close to a major population center, why take a life and destroy property? The guy flew over 5 states for 5 hours.

It’s the Turkish Unitarians you’ve got to watch out for. Piss ‘em off and they’ll burn a question mark on your lawn.

Can a sidewinder lock onto the heat signature of a Cessna? I think we should have found out.

So then what was he? An instructor?!

He became a Canadian citizen in 2008, an changed his name from he original Turkish.

And now a Turkish national, wearing press credentials from Al-Jezirah (sp) (who denies he was a member of Al-J), is arrested after threatening to kill Obama with a knife.

Any dots to connect? And why would a Turkish national want to attempt assassination?

There are about 12 different keys that fit about every legacy Cessna and Piper out there. Kinda low tech.

I hate it when criminals jeopardize general aviation.

LOL! But only after a lengthy discussion over tea and sushi on how to condemn you without appearing judgemental.

“The fighter jets captured him after he started running? wow”

Yeah, I wonder how they “jumped across the fence”. That would have been a feat.

he landed on a Missouri highway late today and took off running...

It takes a lot of optimism to try to outrun an F-16.

“The enemy learned something important tonight.

We won’t shoot first.”

A-yup! Nailed it.

There were more than two F-16s involved in the chase. Nearby Volk field home of the WI AFNG scambled jets and for 3 hours there was a tense chase going on which resulted in the state Capitol of Madison being evacuated. Very likely the plane was headed to Chicago, and this may have been a probe. What is interesting is the ABC report quoting air school officials saying the 31 yr old Canadian/Turk was not one of their students. If he was or wasn’t is moot, one thing he was, was a competent pilot.

If this didn’t originate in Canada we’d never know what the hell was going on because their media is hell of a lot more open than ours.http://www.theusmat.com/

The fighter jets captured him after he started running? wow

I was going to say that those F16 upgrades are really something! We've got the best fighters in the world, if they can capture someone who's on the run from the cops (on the ground!)

And I thought it was impressive when those Iraqi soldiers surrendered to the helicopter!

That plane might of gotten lost by flying under radar for a time, then popping back up because the jets from Volk field were all over the place during that time. In addition they might have lost it when it veered south and safely landed in Missouri. The FBI will be all over that area because whatever his name is might have had gone to a pickup point and would have escaped. Hence I believe this was a probe. By the way I’m listening to WLS Done Wade & Roma am 890 as I’m monitoring my PC and ABC news is not mentioning what they earlier reported. That the pilot might not have been a student or his Turkish name ...See how things are done
