>Rush uses a computer as a storage box.

He has no real ‘computing’ needs, since he is not technically oriented. This is the case with 90% of Mac users.<

And the percentage of the general, PC owning public who have no real “computing” needs would be what?

This is the case with 90% of Mac users.
Actually macs are used very much in film ,audio and other video applications in high end studios all over the world.
I was a die hard PC guy all my life ..The new Mac pros blow away ANY PC I ever had , even ones I had custom built. The cinema screens on the new macs have unreal clarity.

Wow are you wrong. I do SERIOUS audio and video editing on on the Mac Pro and it runs as smooth as silk and as fast as I can use the keyboard.
Logic Audio is used in many top recording studios and Pro Tools is the industry standard for recording world wide ..All mac applications.

Vista is THE worst operating system ever invented.
I could spend an hour on here telling you JUST how it sucks.
I’ve yet to plug anything into my Mac Pro that it didn’t recognize it and run it in 2 seconds.
I DVD and I Photo are brilliant softwares .

“PC owning public who have no real “computing” needs would be what?”

Corporations. They buy most of the computers.

I do software development for embedded systems. The difference in time to build the software is amazing. 1 minute 26 seconds on Windows XP but only 32 seconds under Windows 7. Not bad. Doing dozens of rebuilds every day results in a nice time savings. Windows 7 is worth the price just for that.

It’s all about context. If Rush worked in higher education like I do he would also buy a PC. This place is infected with group think and owning a Mac is considered the only “right” thing to do, kind of like driving a Prius. Rush is no stranger to making contextual statements (like turning on all his lights during the earth day brown out). My PC is a contextual statement, not a statement on the value of a Mac.

As a Sony fan I’ll note that yes Sony products are excellent choices - so long as you know EXACTLY what you’re getting. I find they cut corners very close around what the buyer expects, taking advantage of common misunderstandings or malformed expectations.

Examples:
- yes my VAIO has a MemoryStick slot, along with other proprietary buttons etc., which were quite handy. Notice I said “were”. Dunno what happened, but some high-level driver/package stopped running and knocked out all those useful features, with no indication of how to recover short of full re-install.
- yes my VAIO has a 50GB drive. That’s base10 “giga”, not base2 “giga”. That also neglects the inaccessible 10GB partition which allegedly contains restore-to-new software packages, with no way of restoring them.

Notice the nuances required to explain, badly, the corners which were cut. Sure it has a 50GB drive and a MemoryStick slot - not that they’re usable as implied.

Faced between a Sony ultraportable VAIO and the MacBook Air, the choice is tough. Both are way cool. That the VAIO runs Windows is its edge. That the Air is solid in what you expect of it is its edge. Tough call. I’ll get the Air when my VAIO dies.

Yes it is , Final Cut Studio and Logic sure aren’t though .
That’s where a PC gets lost in the dust .

I have both also, but only use the PC for reading email or
googling when I’m downstairs and too lazy to go where my iMac is.
