STOCKTON - A retired truck driver and Vietnam War veteran said Monday that he is forming an armed militia - mostly men with rifles and armbands, four to a car - to patrol Stockton this summer, when at least 43 police officers are to be laid off.

I’d like to see a lot more of this. But I suspect that it’s illegal — at least in states like MA where I live.

Good for them. They are taking this straight from the Constitution.

I live in MA too; not sure if it's actually illegal. We do have concealed carry (I have an unrestricted license to carry myself), and so far as I know, open carry is also not illegal.

Of course, being a "may issue" state, we constantly have to worry about our police chiefs yanking our LTCs if we do something to make them think we're "unsuitable".

If enough of us have the guts to put this to the test, what are they really going to do?

As long as welfare, food, free education, healthcare, public housing, bilingual education, colelge admission, Affirmative Action and everything in everyday life being written and spoken in Spanish...the Dems do not care about where the votes come from or the social or cost of crime...power is the goal, period.

Why not? We are told we have to let the illegal alien invaders trample our property. And if you do something, you get sued by the illegals and the ACLU and likely the Justice Dept. The tree of liberty is in sore need of water.

Agreed, but the hand wringing has already started with the mayor whining about “untrained” citizens on patrol.

Most of them are ex-military. How did they get to skip basic?

These are the kind of people who will get Waco’d in the future, because this is definitely not what our government, especially Zero, has in mind when mentionng the civilian defense force.

I applaud the effort. It’s a good idea — get rid of the Blue Army and let armed neighborhood watch groups do the policing.

That being said: I sure hope this guy has a good lawyer and nice, deep pockets. He’s going to need both.

Indeed, while the Tree of Liberty withers away, it's natural manure has been piling up for years.

A very healthy application is long overdue.

I’m not too keen about this. Armed yahoos in cars do not have any legitimacy in law — particularly if they do not have the Mayor’s blessing.

If implemented, this can only end in tears.

I think it’s great. What a bunch of weenies we have in the USA now. If you want to get your BP up, read the comments from the Stockton folks. They’re scared to death of “untrained armed men” driving around. Like the Colonists/Revolutionaries weren’t.........we have sure come a long way from our founding. Dhimmies.....afraid to stand up to or for anything.

Here's the REAL problem.

"We are not at the point that we need to have armed militias patrolling Stockton," Vice Mayor Kathy Miller said.

Mayor Ann Johnston said, "Oh, no no no no, no no no. ... We don't want armed citizens out there who are not trained."

DieHard.......have you ever been to a California inland town? Stockton is getting pretty bad these days. I can certainly understand these peoples’ motivations. I just hope the “bravado” level doesn’t go nuclear.

It’s obviously not ALL chicks(we love you Sarah), but the overwhelming majority hate guns and the thought of wild-eyed vigilante maniacs driving around with them makes them crazy. The new sheriff in San Diego? is another example.

From what I hear getting a permit for concealed carry in MA depends completely on where you live. Some places, e.g., City of Boston, it is just about impossible to get concealed carry.

Legal? Illegal? When the Constitution is trashed by our own Government legal and illegal mean different things to different people. All power, political and otherwise comes out of the barrel of a gun. Sounds scary but if you give it some real deep thought, you will see it is the truth.

This is true. I am fortunate to live in a rural town well outside of Boston. Our PD are good people and are supportive of citizens' rights. My wife and I both got unrestricted LTCs with no problem.

It takes about 5 officers to fill a 22/7 patrol car. That’s 1 per car per shift, vacation, days off, sick time, etc.

If they lay off 43, they’ll have about 8 fewer cars on the street at any given time or 4 if the officers double up.

That’s a lot in a crime ridden town like Stockton.
