WASHINGTON (AP) — Hispanics made up nearly half of the more than 1 million people who became U.S. citizens last year, according to a Hispanic advocacy group. The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials said the number of Latinos who became Americans in fiscal year 2008 more than doubled over the previous year, to 461,317. That's nearly half of the record 1,046,539 new citizens overall in 2008, a 58 percent increase from 2007.

Tick, tick, tick....

In ten years Texas will be a Democratic state as will Florida.

The Electoral College math will then become extremely difficult for the GOP.

Proving once again that modern "immigration" is not in any way "diverse", but almost monotonically Mexican.

Simply because the nation next door is a disgusting disaster and has been for 500 years is no reason to hand over the United States to them.

Kaine: Dems will court all 50 states ‘now and forever’[DNC]

"Kaine sought to reach out to Hispanic voters in particular. He said, speaking in Spanish, that he learned important lessons while working as a young missionary in Honduras, and that the DNC would work to build strong relationships with the Hispanic community under his tenure."

Might not the Latinos who actually went thru the naturalization process be a little more undertanding of the GOP philosophy?

As I wrote in that thread:

If the GOP can not begin to make progress among Hispanics, Texas will become a Democratic State by 2020 if not sooner. That would be a game ender.

Good grief — its only 500,000 people nationwide. And, they earned their citizenship the right way — they waited in line, they took the tests. Their race is entirely irrelevant.

There is no reason the GOP cannot win the votes of individuals that love America enough to do the work required to become citizens.

That’s OK, we should take heart in reflecting on all the other latino-dominated countries worldwide that have become such huge successes. I mean, look at all of them, they’re, uh, everywhere.

Well, the other side of this is that as these legal immigrants assimilate...and they will...they will tend to vote less as a block.

Illegal immigration is an entirely different thing than legal immigrants becoming citizens.

Should we perhaps bring in more people from other countries than Mexico, Guatamala and Honduras? Yes. But I don’t see this as necessarily a great looming threat...if, and only if, we can get illegal immigration under control.

You have to remember that these people are U.S. citizens, just like you or me.

However, you could attempt to pass a constitution amendment that states that only people of a certain race or ethnicity can be citizens.

“You have to remember that these people are U.S. citizens, just like you and me.”

First of all, most of them aren’t U.S. citizens. The actual volume of illegal mexicans within our borders is staggering, and their abuse of the anchor-baby bs is a joke. Secondly, they are not like you and me (or maybe not like me) when they come in illegally, line up at corrupt welfare offices run by other mexicans, take welfare money while working for under the table dollars, thus expanding the level of their theft. Sorry, they aren’t like you and me, and they aren’t like any other immigrant group in American history.

Exactly! But don't waste your time trying to convince the slackjawed nuckledragging Rushbots around here of that fact...they are determined to take the GOP the way of the Whigs. Meanwhile, there are ample reasons to believe that the 50,000 new Americans want to be hard-working, patriotic and will seek conservatism over cradle-to-grave socialism if we'd just forget about race, religion, and previous national origins.

Hey numb nuts, you reference ‘financing U.S. debt’ as though that represents our country receiving help from others. A country buys U.S. Treasuries as an investment, they get a return, and the investment was seen as safe, relative to the other places they could have invested the money. Take your uninformed leftist propaganda back to DU, where you came from. You’re fooling nobody here.

By purchasing bonds they are buying U.S. debt an will in the end see a return on their investment.

And by the way, the refusal to buy U.S. debt is used as a leverage against the U.S. to discourage the U.S. from closing its borders.

Look at why blacks didn't assimilate and, for the most part, the same problems don't exist for Hispanics. Hispanic immigration has many things in common with Southern and Eastern European immgration. That blacks generally didn't immigrate on their own and were subjected to another century of legal descrimination created a cultural divide and mistrust that's outlived the racism that spawned it, in part because just as the racism was dying, the War on Poverty shot the black family in the kneecaps and the subset of blacks who were given respect (or fear) gave young blacks a very warped view of how to achieve success.

And to point out a very politically incorrect observation, there is a reason why forms asking for race say, "White (Not Hispanic)" and don't divide Hispanics by race. Many Hispanics consider themselves "white". And that some white people dont is, in many ways, comparable to the white people who didn't originally see Southern Europeans and Eastern Europeans as white and also considered the Catholic Irish a distinct group.

“And by the way, the refusal to buy U.S. debt is used as a leverage against the U.S. from closing it’s borders.”

One of the most shallow and unsupportable points made on this site in weeks. By the way, you ran that ‘big’ Mexican debt number out there, but you didn’t respond to the $14 billion per year that a single state spends on freeloading, illegal mexicans each year. The net negative to America each year caused by mexico is a staggering figure, and a figure that only grows larger into the future as the impact and influence of this below-average demographic increases.

Coulter’s got the stats in her book, “Guilty”.

The likelihood that a fatherless child will be a criminal, on drugs, engage in prostitution, and “father” or be the “mother” of another generation of fatherless children is astronomically higher than children born into a stable, married, father/mother household.

To make it clear for you, our nation's creditors have influence on our policies. Thus, Mexico does have an influence on our immigration policies.

As for illegal immigration, I live in a city that is booming and has a large number of illegals. And while there may be some positive aspects of cheap labor, the US should increase border security.

Anyone that intentionally has a child outside of a traditional stable family of a father and mother and children

is making a criminal. That you can say maybe 10% of them don’t turn out to be criminals doesn’t dilute my point.

Would you get on a plane when you knew that 90% of the people on that flight would die?

Again, are you for real? This country has 300 million citizens. Less than 8 million were in prison at the end of 2007 and many of them are repeat offenders. That's less than 3% of the population. Even if EVERY SINGLE PERSON in prison was from a broken home, that would still be a FAR cry from 90% of the children from broken homes.

Or do you consider someone getting a speeding ticket a "criminal"?
