Sebelius Confirmation Delayed: Time for Catholic Action
Catholic Online ^ | 4/08/09 | Deacon Keith Fournier

Posted on 04/07/2009 4:49:24 PM PDT by tcg

The real scandal in the unhindered progress of this nomination is the lack of outcry from Catholics in either major Political Party to the confirmation of a nominee whose own Bishop has spoken repeatedly to her over her infidelity to the truth concerning life. The Bishop did this out of pastoral concern and in an effort to help her to come back to the truth and into the full communion of the Church. ...

This administration continues to put forward Catholic candidates who are dissidents when it comes to the very foundation of all Catholic Social teaching, the dignity of every human person from conception throughout the entirety of life and unto Natural death. A Catholic elected official, Republican, Democrat or Independent, who claims to care for the poor and shuts his or her ears to those whom Mother Teresa rightly called the “poorest of the poor” is deceived, deluded or simply being unfaithful to their Baptism.

If confirmed, Governor Sebelius will be placed in charge of building a new health care system in the United States. She has already made her positions clear. She will support the fabricated “right” to reach into a womb and take the life of a child and call such barbarism a “health service”, extracting federal tax dollars to commit the act. She has demonstrated her posture on the myriad of other issues related to this unjust law in her governance at the State level.

Where are the Pro-Life Catholics in either Party? Sadly, we have witnessed the growth of a phenomenon I have called in the past “Anti-Catholic Catholics”. They must be exposed, opposed and replaced. It is time for a new Catholic Action.

Whoever moved for this delay did the work of a prophet.

I hope it isn't lost on Catholics that the delay is for Easter recess and Sebelius is Catholic.

Hello, Catholics. Are you paying attention?

Not to mention the wrongful destruction of families to keep them from rising to compete in business. The feminist social programs supporting the divorce/cohabitation industry need to be shut down. I’m not Catholic, but we working class believers in general have really run out of tolerance for the government/corporate family-busting. It goes hand-in-hand with the pro-abortion policies, and we all know that it’s wrong!

I have called both my Senators Roberts and Brownback numerous times. Brownback claims he is a Catholic and strongly pro-life and both are going to vote for her confirmation. Brownback defends his vote by saying it is the lesser of two-evils.
Brownback wants to be the next governor. We need now to try
to defeat him.

You missed her bishop's and the archbishop's statements then.

Unless you're suggesting a tribunal convene for trial in Rome?

Which would be unnecessary and very stupid - precisely the way the anti-church forces would want the Church to err.

Hello, Catholics. Are you paying attention?

Including this article, it is precisely Catholics who are paying the MOST attention.

Brownback wants to be the next governor. We need now to try to defeat him.

With whom?

Let's let this one play out. If Kathleen gets confirmed, she is out of the 2010 Senate race which probably keeps the seat in Republican hands. Brownback has to be the odds-on favorite to win the Governor's seat. In the interim, Parkinson is no where nearly as politically powerful as Sebelius so the Republican legislature should be able to roll him.

If Kathleen doesn't get confirmed, then she probably runs for and wins the 2010 Senate race. In the interim, she thwarts anything progress the Republican legislature might make. Obama puts someone just as bad or worse in as the HHS director.

Conservatives don't have a lot of good options in this situation.

For the wrong reasons. The most vocal Catholics I know are saying, "Oh, gee, we've got to email our senators." Sure, go ahead (again). But I'll bet on in a thousand doesn't get the spiritual suggestion of the timing.

I’m not getting the “spiritual suggestion of the timing” either

And, is there some other political action you’re advocating?
