Thank you for explaining what I see as just a demographic issue (women, blacks, Hispanics over-represented in Obama photos)- funny how he seems to only show up with certain hand-picked groups of military. There was a study done fairly recently which disagreed with Rangel’s assertions that people of color are dying disproportionately there. NOT true in the all volunteer military, from what I can tell.
I see one guy in the picture with a combat scroll from Ranger Regiment or one of the battalions...can’t see which one...but he could’ve been a support guy in the Regiment. The infantry types are out in the thick of things. Not hanging out at the palace.

Well, the way these things usually go an email is blasted out to the distro list for the base saying something to the effect “Anyone who wants to see the president please come to the palace rotunda in the next 15 mins.”. It’s voluntary and yes, they would be REMFs.

A Forward Operating Base (FOB) is just as it sounds. A FOBBIT is someone that never leaves the FOB (same as a REMF). Think of HOBBITS on a magical tour in Lord of the Onion Rings at the chow hall.
OK.... well I am actually here, you are quite literally talking about the place I work at and I've decided I'm not gonna talk about it. By the way, any of those "REMF's" in the photo could be killed by a mortar, rocket, sniper or a suicide attack tomorrow. Will they be an REMF then, or will you promote them to a hero?
