The White House today said that Mr. Obama's bow was due to the fact that Obama is taller than the Saudi king and he bent down to shake the king's hand with both of his. The video on YouTube shows differently so, I thought the relevant frame of video should be given it's own thread.
Either Mr. Obama has grown a third hand or the "unnamed White House source" is a total liar.

Today, Newt said on Hannity’s radio show, that Bush too bowed to the Saudi king.
Now I saw a video where it looked like Bush was bowing but in reality he was bent over so the king could put some sort of metal on him. Could that be what Newt was referring to? Is there another instance where Bush is bowing?
Newt ALSO said that Bush KISSED the Saudi king. Now “kissing” can mean a lot of things, like those air kisses people give. It’s not the same thing as bowing with one person bowing and the other NOT.
If BOTH people bow to each other, a la the Japanese, that’s considered acceptable. Could it be a mutual bow that Newt refers to? Did Bush ever really bow, like Obama did never mind that ridiculous WH lie?
I do know that Bush held hands with the Saudi king and that was a damn shameful sight byte. Still, it was BOTH people holding hands and just looking dumb.
In the case of Obama it was the American president, and the American president ONLY, doing the bowing.

We witnessed Hussein’s only act of humility, and it was before a Muslim King.
I heard that too and I think he may have meant that in a more figurative way for Bush. That said, President Bush may have done so. I don’t know one way or the other but it is certain that he did all but bow physically to the Saudis.
He was probably bowing down to get a look at what was under his kilt....oh....wait.....

The reason why President Bush held the Saudi kings hand was in respect to the Kings age, nothing else.

Especially good point because there were others handshaking with the king and no bowing. And later Obama shakes the hand of someone shorter than the king and no 'two hands' going on.

Did he bow to the Queen of England? She’s only about 5’4”, less any loss of height due to age and is certainly shorter than the Saudi king. Or is this reserved only for Muslim monarchs?
What about the Prime Minister of Japan? He has to be a lot shorter than Obama. How about Chancellor Merkel? Or the Sarkozys?
Maybe it wasn’t a bow and he simply dropped the Presidential Blackberry.
Go back and see how he handled his meeting with Queen of England. He stood right there and shook her hand.
Has the WH suggested that he had a stomach cramp at that moment yet? That’s certainly more plausible than what they’re putting out. Or else he was farting in someone’s direction. Wonder who was behind him.

Evidently, the Saudi king is suffering from some elderly related infirmities. The famous clip I saw of Bush “holding hands” with the king showed the king stumbling and bumbling like he was unsteady on his feet, so Bush took his hand and helped steady him as he walked. Now, the only part of the clip the left shows is the holding his hand part of it, not the stumbles of the king.

This video version clearly shows that he bowed and slightly genuflected well before he put his hand out.
