Closing a loop on the campaign finance side of the Sarah Palin clothes saga, the Republican National Committee late last month filed an amended report detailing exactly which disbursements were clothing purchases for the Republican vice presidential candidate and her family.
The amended report shows that the committee paid about $23,000 for clothing in the three weeks before and after Election Day which is actually $7,000 less than previously reported.
That new report brings the total Palin clothing costs paid by the RNC down and also makes it easier to spot clothing purchases that had previously gone undetected.
For instance, a $192 payment to the Philadelphia Flyers pro shop previously described as campaign accessories was recategorized as candidate clothing, possibly for either the Flyers hockey jersey Palin reportedly received with her name and the No. 1 on the back before dropping a ceremonial puck or the one that her younger daughter, Piper, wore at the game.
Similarly, a $289 payment to high-end shoemaker Stuart Weitzman, which had been described as retail and accessories, became candidate clothing.
The report also details a number of clothing payments to retailers not known for their sartorial selection, including $49 to a UPS Store near running mate John McCains Arizona ranch; $144 to CVS stores in Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin; and $426 to various Walgreens stores.
The RNC did not respond to requests for comment about the amended report or the fate of the clothes, which were to have been donated to charity.
The amended report came at the behest of the Federal Election Commission, which last month ordered the committee to include a brief statement or description of why the [accessory] expenditures were made on behalf of the McCain-Palin campaign.

No doubt that spider get-up required a trip up the Amazon to find spiders big enough to skin!
How much did the DNC spend on The One, and how much did the RNC spend on McCain?
I’d like to see a report detailing exactly which disbursements were made for the City of Chicago and the State of Illinois for year 2008.
Don’t forget about those Green Columns at the Democratic Convention..That alone cost a million bucks
WHAT ABOUT THE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN ILLEGAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS TO ZERO HUSSEIN FROM OVERSEAS, THE FOREIGN PHONE BANKS, And The Millions Spent on ZERO’S PLANE Presidential Seat, Greek Columns and Thousands of Muslim Prayer Rugs? Is the FEC going to Investigate Those?
Does everyone believe the Michelle Paid for Her Thousands of Outfits and Hairdressers, makeup Artists and Photo Airbrushers?
I hold ONE person responsible for Sarah Palin even considering these clothes. Cindy McCain. I think that Cindy was upset that Sarah was on the ticket and wanted to force her own sense of style into the campaign. Did you EVER see a photo-op with just the 2 candidates where Cindy was not also on stage?
To me, this speaks volumes as to how absolutely tone-deaf the McCains are. Of course Sarah Palin could not campaign for Vice President in fleece, but she certainly should have ignored Cindy’s invaluable “advice.”
I have no direct evidence of this, but I believe it nonetheless.
Palin/Anyone but Huckabee in 2102!
Last fall, I thought we were told it was ~$150K that was spent for her clothing.
The media is attempting to portray Palin as a celebrity diva. It is part of the narrative that the MSM is pushing about Palin being not very bright.
The RNC spends it’s own money to buy clothes for a candidate. The DNC does the exact same thing and probably did it for Michelle and the kids. Yet for some reason the media is obsessed about how much the RNC spent.
From what I sw Palin had three things against her:
1. The Republican Party
2. The main stream media.
3. The Democrat Party.
This story in the Politico is based on a report the RNC was required to file with the FEC. It’s all a matter of public record, no need for anyone to have spoken with media types.
Money well spent, she looked fabulous all the time.
There is only about a couple hundred thousand old sailors who would bid on her skivvies....We all love Sarah....
Lets all talk about Palin’s clothes, why don’t we. And lets don’t talk about where O’s money comes from. Why don’t we.
The LSM mad a huge deal out of the RNC buying Sarah’s clothes, but not one word about where Meeeshell is getting her clothes. I’ll bet that SHE isn’t paying for them.
You are suffering from dementia. Please see someone who can give and appropriate prescription. /s
We were. I wonder if the Old Grey Lady, or the Washington Compost are going to 'amend' their stories about Sarah Palin's clothing expenses.
I, for one, won't be holding my breath waiting for their retractions.
Dont forget about those Green Columns at the Democratic Convention..That alone cost a million bucks
Doesn’t the FEC allocate a certain amount for each party’s convention?.... I assume each convention can spend it as they want to with some guidelines I’m sure.
I think you just answered your own question.
Why was this ever news. You mean to tell me that no money was spent by the Dems on clothes for the Obamas?
Oh no this is all over now, what is David Frum going to talk about on his blog?
In other words, now that no one will notice or care, we learn that there really was nothing to the whole affair. The liberal media just wanted to smear Governor Palin, and they succeeded. Their dishonesty must be avenged someday.
“Palin/Anyone but Huckabee in 2102!”
Lol, I like it :) I could get behind that ticket!
Exactly. The MSM manufactures stories out of nothing. Case in point — all of the misleading headlines on Mitt Romney stories that do not support anything in the actual article. They know most people run off hysterical without reading the whole article.
I guess that should be hysterically.
