That sounds so simple, even a congressman can do it.

This is NOT the governor Perry I know. Actually growing a pair? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Absolutely not. The Rick Perry we know is power-hungry. And this is exactly what is needed in order to restrain the federal government.

That was Madison's aim, as described in Federalist 10, for preserving the nation from the despotism which usually arises from a central government: Play the separate powers against one another. Let them fight among themselves and they'll be easier for the people to control.

Great News! I know that the resolution has no teeth, but maybe it increase the national conversation about states rights. Now, if we can get this one to get Perry’s support.

My knee jerk reaction is that this is just Texas swagger to get him some press and his ultimate goal is to run for president in 2012.

That's hardly a knee-jerk reaction, considering the way Perry milked the border issue in his last campaign - then as quickly abandoned it once it had served his needs.

Like the rest of you, I have never really cared for Perry but, I know he, like many Texas, have great animosity toward the Feds.

If he chose to take this to the next level (secession) he would have many follwers and likely get a new position.....President of the Republic of Texas

It’s hard to get excited unless there’s an actual discussion of secession. It’s time to part ways and re-establish the Republic the way it was intended. Otherwise this just makes good theater.

Remember, we entered this country by treaty as a sovereign nation, a republic.

And became a state through consent of Congress, same as every other one except the original 13.

Time for TX to succeed from the union!

Not to mention secede from the Union but Texas will succeed if they first secede because, if the Republic of Texas embraces capitalism and private health care while the United States embraces socialism and nationalized health care, Texas will draw the best and brightest of doctors and entreprenuers causing an explosion of economic success.

I think it can be done and now is the time to do it before they take away our guns, abolish our death penalty and stick us with generations upon generations of debt. Texas can fix all of it themselves if they'll just get serious about standing up for their independence instead of bowing to the tyranny of people from Massachussetts, New York, California...and Kenya.

Awesome! States re-exercising their rights will ultimately make the nation (NOT the Federal government, big difference) stronger as a whole!

Go Gov Perry and Texas legislature!

Let’s hope he does the right thing. I know we all could use someone who is really on our side.

"Wasn't he asking the federal government to deploy the national guard on the Texas-Mexico border? Isn't it his job to deploy the Texas national guard in his state?"

It is, but one has to have balls for that. From what I hear, that's not Perry's strongest characteristic.

This may fall under the heading "Political Self-Preservation." Even Dianne Feinstein can tell which way the wind is blowing.

Great News! I know that the resolution has no teeth...

This particular point has come up numerous times when these initiatives are discussed. Technically and legally accurate BUT not necessarily true IMHO. I've used any number of examples to demonstrate a how mere words can potentially create a desired outcome; I've come up with another one: ;^)

Let's say I'm some dude in my prime; 6'4", 250 lbs of rompin' stompin' hell death and destruction and you're the poster boy for "98 lb weakling". However, I've allowed you by way of legalistic deceptions and battering by a complicit cheering squad of half wits in the State Run Media to intimidate me. I've made up my mind I'm NOT gonna take it any more and I tell you that if you so much as blink your eyes again in my presence, I'll hit you so hard it'll make your momma's nose bleed, would it give you pause? Would it possibly have you steppin' and fetchin' for some toothpicks to hold your eyelids open or turning tail and beating a hasty retreat?

...but maybe it increase the national conversation about states rights. Now, if we can get this one to get Perry’s support.

This one is liable not to make it given the large metro areas in Texas but you just never know. We can get on the horn to our reps and offer our support and encouragement - which I've done BTW. You're probably aware the Montana legislature has recently passed what appears to be an identical bill that's awaiting a DIM governor's signature to become law. NO major metro areas where most of the ne'er-do-wells tend to congregate; probably a comparatively low incidence of crime, partitularly drug related crime, so...

Perhaps Perry sees the writing on the wall and does in fact care about life for his family to say the least.

Amen !!! Rick Perry finally got one right...even if it was just a political move to shore up conservative support in his run against KBH.
