in Richmond, Va. -- one of hundreds held every weekend across the state of Virginia and the country. We gave Samaha $5,000 and one hour to see how many guns he could buy, and how many questions he would be asked.
For Samaha, the Glock handgun was a particularly painful purchase. It was the same kind of gun used to kill his sister Reema when she was a freshman at Virginia Tech. Just holding the gun in his hand was difficult. < snip > Samaha walked back into the gun show, and within minutes he was out again, this time carrying a Colt AR 15, a semi-automatic assault weapon very similar to an M16. We asked if there were any questions asked.
Over the course of the hour, Samaha purchased 10 guns: three rifles, four shotguns, one handgun. He could have purchased many more handguns, but he wanted to abide by Virginia State law, which allows the purchase of one handgun per month, and two assault weapons.
Gun rights groups don't want to see the loophole closed because they fear that background checks will hurt business at gun shows, and also threaten privacy rights. They also argue that the Virginia Tech shooter didn't buy his gun at a gun show. < snip >
Even though Samaha immediately turned in all the weapons he bought at the gun show to the Richmond Police Department, Nunziato pointed out that if Samaha had wanted to, he could have caused a lot of damage with the guns he purchased.
"There were three or four police cars in the parking lot [at the gun show]. None of them could have stopped him [Samaha] with the firepower he bought," said Nunziato.

Leftists think like lunatics and they think everyone else is as crazy as they are, so in their ideal world, everyone lives in a locked room with padded walls. The leftist straw purchaser bought some guns and thought, "Look at all the firepower I have! I could shoot 30 people in this room! The cops don't stand a chance against me! The more guns I hold in a bundle in my arms, the more firepower I have! Me so powerful!" Statists have a disordered, infantile view of power and authority. They are paranoid and think only in terms of destruction and domination.
Of course, the average person at the gunshow is thinking different thoughts. A woman is buying a handgun for the first time and taking a gun safey course. A farmer is buying an AR-15 carbine because he needs a good "varmint rifle." A target shooter is buying a .308 caliber "military" rifle because he wants to do long-range shooting. A hunter is buying a shotgun. A collector is buying an old Luger. The farmer is not thinking, "Wow, that AR-15 gives me the power to shoot everyone in the room. Finally, I am somebody!" The person buying the Luger is thinking, "Wow, this gun is expensive but is has its original finish and the parts match." He is not thinking about shooting the person next to him. The woman is not planning on starting her own gang and shooting up the town.
In the statist mentality, a gun is a totem of power , and only agents of the idealized state, not the mere citizen, should have such power. The state is thus to the leftist ideally over and above the people and never from and with the people. So the infantile leftist did a "bad" thing by holding in his hands even one gun. For he knows he is a mere infant and it is not his place to do something "adult" like have a gun. Fortunately, the good leftist turned in these totems of power to the benevolent state. The state will destroy these guns, and the leftist will feel affirmed in his infantilism. However, the leftist rages that everyone is not as infantile as he is.

Of course, asshole, they are in the parking lot, minutes away. But one or more gun holders nearby would have put a few in his chest or his head, rendering the rest of his armaments quite ineffective.
he probably saved a lot on that $500/ gun buying the shotguns- which were probably mossberg 500 or rem 870s. you can buy those all day for $200.
Time to move, man. Come out to Indiana. Cheap land, cheap homes, and light restrictions on firearm ownership. Over Thanksgiving, I was thinking about how thankful I was for my second amendment rights, so I went to the gun show that we had that weekend. Bought a 1911, and it took less than ten minutes from the time I said "sold" until the time I walked out with it--and that includes the time it took the guy to call the credit card company for approval on my card.
And, by the way, that's without any permit.

better bet will be that a couple cops will have new items in their personall collections at best...or extra throwdowns for the next 'swat shoots granny in bed' headlined B&E...

Virginia passes that law too IIRC. Bob McDonnell, who is currently running for governor, was the Virginia Attorney General when the law passed and he sent Bloomberg a letter telling him to stop the straw purchases because it was against the law and violators would be prosecuted.

The form you fill out when buying a gun (4473) specifically asks if you are the actual buyer. Question 12a reads as follows:
Are you the actual buyer of the firearm(s) listed on this form? Warning: You are not the actual buyer if you are acquiring the firearm(s) on behalf of another person. If you are not the actual buyer, the dealer cannot transfer the firearm(s) to you.
If he filled out a 4473 for any of these purchases, was ABC involved in a "straw purchase?"
How can they attempt to close something that doesn't even exist?
