They had no idea who was in the water and who wasn't. The captain would have had his head down and swimming intensely. The whole sounds like it didn't last very long for much to be done.
It was two guys in the water at a distance and it didn’t last very long. I don’t see this incident providing much of an opening the way it was described.
I am proud of the captain. He’s an American man.
Yep. The Bainbridge and Halyburton would put a shell each through the Alabama's bridge and engine room, respectively, and then the SEALs would hit.
Game over.
I’ve been wondering about that. Doesn’t our destroyer have sharpshooters on board? And divers? Seems to me a well-placed shot could sink the stupid little dingy. Or a diver, under cover of darkness, could attach a very small timed or remote-controlled explosive to the underside of the boat (just enough to either blow a tiny hole in the boat or flip it over), so that our people would control the timing of the surprise explosion/sinking, and be ready to snatch the captain in the initial confusion (and leave the pirates in the water to contemplate their misdeeds). AK-47s would be mighty difficult to operate while swimming, not to mention that the captain is of no value to the pirates if they kill him.
