Skynews ^ | April 10, 2009 | Staff

Somali pirates holding an American ship captain hostage have reportedly made a £1.6m ransom offer - as another hostage in the same region is killed.

American Captain Richard Phillips tried to escape by jumping into the sea in sight of a US warship, but he was quickly recaptured, officals have said.

Capt Phillips is not thought to have been hurt in the incident, even though shots from an automatic weapon were fired in the drama.

Meanwhile, the French military has managed to free a child and three others from a yacht taken hostage in the notorious Gulf of Aden last week. But a fifth hostage has been killed in the operation.

Live high on the hog in Somalia? I guess you could consider living in slums on a higher level is good in Somalia. But I agree.....no deals. Even if deals were made, get the captain back and sink them anyway.

It's an inflatable boat. Deflate it and give them the choice of life or death.

They'll come around quickly when they are in the water.

It's a very sad day in history when the French government shows more balls than our own.

I’m just a stupid citizen, but it’s beyond me why the government doesn’t dump a load of counterfeit or marked bills on these pirates.

A five gallon bucket full of concrete is all these mopes need dumped on them. From about a hundred feet.

Their president is more conservative. Ours is a more committed socialist than Sarkozy is.

Geez, I hate my government.

Exactly. You can’t negotiate with terrorists. `Surrender or die.’ Then, whatever happens, hit their sanctuaries hard.
It will be interesting to see what the TOTUS orders.

Looks like they have a hood over the captain’s head. Isn’t that torure, like at Abu Graibh?

President Reagan would have given them an offer they couldn’t refuse.

Zero is such a coward.

Shred the pirates.

Torch their homebase . . . totally . . . the whole city.
At least the whole neighborhood.

Better yet, have your divers drill a hole in the bottom of the boat while the loudspeakers are going. Offer them life vests in exchange for the captain.

I like the way you think.

Gotta speak their language.

Yes, like when he offered arms to the Iranians and they worked to free some of the hostages in Lebanon. Of course, the Lebanese terrorists then just took additional hostages to replace those released.
