The Bush administration got excoriated by the Left for its expansive use of the state-secrets doctrine. Barack Obama and other Democratic presidential hopefuls pounded Bush for its use. In fact, that was one of the principal components of Hope and Change a shift away from secrecy and back to the rule of law, although no one has shown how Bush actually broke any laws in the first place. Apparently, Obama agrees, and as Jake Tapper reports, has decided to expand the Bush practice on state secrets:

Being skeptical of government power when President Bush implemented these laws, I was sure that if there were any violations, the ‘progressives’ would have him up on impeachment charges faster than you can say ‘Constitution’. So far there has been no proof.
Who will expose any ‘progressive’ violations? That worries me.

It was all I could do to not laugh in the face of some of my lib friends who were convinced that the Bush admin was spying on them. They had no evidence of course, but everybody knows that the Bushies just couldn’t wait to start spying on, arresting, convicting, and imprisoning or executing dissenters. That they couldn’t produce one innocent American to whom these things have happened did not diminish their paranoia in the slightest.
