My first video commentary is now available:
Thats the Conservative argument. But today Id like to explain the liberal argument: Shut up.
See it here
Message to conservatives at Tea Parties and all other functions: Do not allow liberals (in whatever disguise they show up in) shut you up.
A “Klavan” is where KKK members hang out...no thanks!
Put me on yer calender for 2010......
Libtards “shutting up” during the previous 8 years worked well, didn’t it?
I have one thing to say to this idiot - STFU>H
"Essentially, there's no voice for gay Republicans or gay conservatives in particular in D.C. right now. Log Cabin has been completely and totally absent here in D.C. for months and months," Barron said. "It has simply moved way too far to the left and is basically indistinguishable from any other gay left organization."
The ideological battle has been playing out in the gay media and on some blogs for a while, spurred in part by the Blade's revelation that the Log Cabin Republicans' biggest backer is a prominent Democrat, Tim Gill. Their complaint, in general, is that Log Cabin has grown indistinguishable from left-leaning gay rights groups.
Who is Andrew klavan?
Super guy. He was hands down the best speaker at the Tax Rally in Santa Barbara on April 4th. The other speakers were boring politicians for the most part. Tammy Bruce was okay but she didn't really get the crowd all ginned up. We are having another protest on Tax Day in Santa Barbara. The protest on April 15th is our official Tax Day Tea Party in Alameda Park. We won't have any politicians or paid speakers...just passionate patriots, old school protest music and a march to the IRS.
And even if he's a moderate (as some are who write at pajamas media) his exposition also exposes those in the GOP who have done and continue to do the same thing -- attack those who disagree with them in the hopes of getting principled conservatives to shut up.
Was your comment a joke or do you have some substantive charge to make?
Just a general question. Why are politicians allowed to speak at our protests on April 15? They are the problem and now they want to steal some of the limelight.
Unless there name is Coburn, Pence, DeMint or Palin - tell them to stay home.
Puts me in mind of something Ann Couter might say . . . and did.
Who is Andrew klavan?
He is teaming with Andrew Breitbart on the “Big Hollywood” website, among other things
I probably shouldn’t know this, but Klansmen hang out at a Klavern, not a Klavan...
Nice piece! Thanks!
Do we lower ourselves to their level when we respond:
Isn’t, or wasn’t, he a write at LA Times?
That would be klaven.
He recently wrote an editorial that was published by the LA Times but I am not sure if he is on staff. The article was challenging people who hate Rush to actually listen to him before they made up their minds.
The Tax Day Tea Party I am involved with has asked ALL politicians to stay away. We are just trying to get people excited about the Founding Fathers and the principles on which this country was founded. The problem with including any politicians...well...it gets political. You and I probably don't agree on who the best GOP leader is. In 2008 I supported Romney on FR on got all kinds of names thrown at me. My conservative credentials were questioned, etc. Right now I just want to start at ground zero: The Bail-Out was immoral. The current Budget is Immoral. I want to go back to the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. You would not believe how full of crap things get when ever the wanna-bees around the politicians get involved. There are some absolutely HORRIBLE people who hang around politicians. Parasites.
I could not agree with you more. Romney was not my cup of tea (pun intended), but hey, you are entitled to your opinion. That’s what made America great.
Today, politicians and their toadies are only interested in two things: 1)reelection and 2)image. Principles and ethics are about 98-99 on the list.
A Klavan is where KKK members hang out...no thanks!
Gotta call Bravo Sierra on the above.
What you meant was “klavern”, not klavan.
A 1960’s song was titled “Is there a Klavern in your town?”.
It had a line about some of the members “Got so much cash, now, by Gum, we’re rich white trash”.
Needless to say, Sen. Byrd is not amused.
Klavan : “ ... listen to the people they don’t want you to listen to. And whatever you do, don’t shut up.”
Andrew Klavan (born 1954 in New York City) is an American author and screenwriter of “tough-guy” mysteries and psychological thrillers. Two of Klavan’s books have been adapted into motion pictures: True Crime (1999) and Don’t Say A Word (2001). He has been nominated for the Edgar Award four times and has won twice. Playwright and novelist Laurence Klavan is his brother.
Klavan’s father was Gene Klavan, a New York disk jockey and one-half of the radio show “Klavan and Finch.”
Identifying himself as a political conservative, Klavan has expressed the view that “rightists” are the victims of discrimination in Hollywood. In July 2008 he likened George W. Bush to Batman in The Dark Knight, starting with their public vilification. Klavan compared “left-wing” realistic films and “conservative” fantasy films as genres that comment explicitly or metaphorically on martial values.
Mother of all pings!
And that is a list of 100!
I'm guessing you didn't watch the video?
Thanks for filling in the blanks. (again! :))
You’re welcome. But I must confess it was done out of self protection. I followed your link, posted my first comment about liking the video, and then started to read posts that talked about the KKK. My stomach dropped (”Egads! did I just compliment a Wht Suprmcst?) LOL. I was happy to read his biography and find that those posts were bogus.
You think YOU were unsettled? I posted it! LOL.
I didn’t bother checking because he’s a regular at pjmedia and they’d be even more embarrassed, so I figured he was okay.
Still, I was a bit deflated even though I suspected the first poster was simply ruffing a sophomoric pun from the near homophone of Klavan’s name. Take note of my question to him at number 13.
Whether or not the doubt invoked by this “joke” was intentional or not, I think how you and I (and who knows how many others) is exactly the effect disruptors aim to create. There is always a chance that it indeed was a defensive measure by a resident establishmentarian type looking to diminish his Klavan’s apt message.
In reality, I think, it demonstrates the kind of self-inflicted “shut up” establishment types have counted upon for years. I think it is time for a change in our responses. You made it easier to do so. So thanks again for making the facts clear.
I think how you and I (and who knows how many others) were affected....
LOL! Good point!

Yup! I agree.
So thanks again for making the facts clear.
No problem! Just doin't my part. I always enjoy your posts. :-)
P.S.... I am now reminded that I had some history to study and didn't get back to that (re: screenname). So many things to do, so little time!
Several of you had bits and pieces of the picture, so I have pinged you to fill you in on the rest.
Hello. Welcome to my new blog, Klavan on the Culture. Its a companion piece to some commentaries by the same name Ill be doing on PJTV. I hope youll tune in to see them.
For the last forty years, we conservatives have allowed the left to monopolize the culture. Partly, sure, thats because the left excludes and blacklists conservative artists. But its also due to our own neglect, philistinism and old-fogey-ositude. Whatever the causes, though, movies, television, literature, music, mainstream news, liberal arts courses in universitiesall the bastions of cultural power are in the hands of leftist rascals, fools and clowns. Their relativist, anti-liberty, anti-faith creed is a slow poison dripping into the American consciousness. Its the same poison that has sapped the vitality of Europe since World War II, that nearly allowed Soviet tyranny to triumph in the seventies, that has so befuddled our intellectual elites that they often side with murderers and thugs over free, democratic states and that has now elevated an empty hologram of a man to the highest office in our land.
Ive been waging my own little battle against this state of affairs with as much creativity and hilarity as I can muster. Ive done it in my novelsgo over to Amazon and buy yourself a copy of Empire of Lies and youll see what I meanin my writings at City Journal, in interviews like this 5-parter with Peter Robinson over at Uncommon Knowledge, and in blogs like AndrewKlavan.com and Big Hollywood. Now Ill continue the fight here and on PJTV.
Ive said this before and Ill say it again: We can win back the presidency, the congress and the supreme court, but if we lose the culture, we ultimately lose the country. I know were conservatives. I know were naturally better at creating civilizations, building businesses, raising children, running governments and praising God than doing the really important stuff like telling stories, cracking jokes and singing songs. But the trumpets of destiny summon us to a new battlefield! We must fight them in the movies, we must fight them in the novels, we must fight them in the music videos. We must never surrender!
Whatever. You get the picture. Here I am.
This is key. We have to beat them at their own game. Your school teachers were wrong when they told you, "This is not a popularity contest!" Everything is a popularity contest. We need to be cool and likable. We need to lead the fun parade, and we can do it while adhering to our core values and principles.
I heard Andrew Klavan speak a few weeks ago and he is an excellent example of someone who is cool and conservative. I ordered Empire of Lies because I am voting with my dollars. I engage in commerce with people who are good for America and I withhold dollars from anti-America types. I have always done this but I am doing it with increased gusto and encouraging my less intense friends to do the same.
