DALLAS -- The new couple at 10141 Daria Place accepted an invitation to a neighborhood dinner party last month. The guest list totaled eight. The main dish was chicken potpie. George and Laura Bush left their cul-de-sac in the back of a dark sedan, exited through a Secret Service checkpoint and rode down streets bordered by lawn signs adorned with gigantic Ws to welcome them home.
It had been a bad week for the country. President Obama spoke on television about the burdens he had inherited in office: anti-American sentiment, two wars, a recession. But it had been a good week at 10141 Daria Place. The Bushes shared stories over dinner about their return to Texas after eight years in Washington. They had improved their sprinkler system and hung custom-made green drapes. Neighbors had brought over homemade cookies and a potted houseplant.
Not until late in the dinner party did the former president speak in any depth about his two terms in the White House. He told one of his favorite stories, about a trip to Bucharest, Romania, in 2002. More than 200,000 people had come to hear him speak in a town square, he said. The sky turned dark. A cold rain fell. The Romanian president introduced him and -- look at that! A huge rainbow emerged on the horizon, and the Romanians burst into applause.
"Magical," Bush said.

Well, I was expecting the idiotic lib jab somehow when it comes to the washington COMPost, but Dubya is enjoying his life which is the bottom line.
Inherited? Everything that happens now is OBAMA’S.... end of story. No response on N Korea, IRAN, or Pirates...PATHETIC!
Somehow I don’t think That One and his Missus will be quite as humble when they leave the White House.
Well, lookie at the American people inherited! Treasonous leadership...pandering to enemies...oh never mind - I could go on and on and on and on (and on).
May GOD Continue to BLESS OUR GREAT PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH and LAURA BUSH, Two Wonderful American Heros and Patriots and just Outstanding People...:-)
What President Bush must be suffering and enduring as he watches ZERO singlehandely destroy OUR DEAR AMERICA!
It is going to be a long, long time before they leave, my FRiend. And the United States of America will be totally and completly destroyed.
I quit reading the snide piece after the 1st page...they’re still trying to show him out of touch and unpopular.....I would bet 60% + just might want President Bush back after this doofus they elected....
My, what a stark contrast to the present occupants of the White House.
~~PING!

“How did you make your decisions in office?
*snip*
The students were too star-struck to take notes. Bush stood at the center of the classroom, at home in the 33 percent, and offered an early summation of his presidency.
You make your decisions based on principles, he said. And you never worry about popularity or polls.”
The kind of event that the press in the US covered grudgingly and briefly, if at all. 200,000 people came to hear GWB speak about freedom and loved what they heard.
You found the key ‘pull quote’ from the article:
President Bush:
“YOU MAKE YOUR DECISIONS BASED ON PRINCIPLES, HE SAID. AND YOU NEVER WORRY ABOUT POPULARITY OR POLLS.”
Any problems not "inherited" are the fault of Rush or some other "Right-Winger".
They may not actually ever leave the White House!
I can easily see Dear Leader as President-For-Life, as his counterparts in theology, Vlad Putin and Hugo Chavez, seem to be.

WITH A REUNION PLANNED, BUSH EASES BACK INTO THE PUBLIC EYE
[Are pigs flying somewhere?! the NYTimes has managed to publish an almost snark-free article about President Bush.]

“It is going to be a long, long time before they leave, my FRiend. And the United States of America will be totally and completly destroyed.”
Then we have nothing to lose at this point in fighting these bastards!
leave or as i hope, turf them out on their asses on the way to jail.
I know that I do. I noticed the snide implications, but they would be surprised how much people are going to end up liking President Bush after just a few months of Obama.
I agree..
“He lives squarely in the remaining 33 percent. “
I am proud to be one of that 33%... I had some major problems with some of Bush’s policies (amnesty, signing campaign finance reform, not pushing the surge a lot sooner, the bailout )...But he is a great man and the current occupant of the WH pales in comparison.
trails?
You had me at "President Obama".
I never doubted that Bush made his decisions based on what he thought was best for the country, everything considered.
Meaning, sometimes he had to compromise on details or let the pols get away with earmarks in order to move forward on something important.
Politics is the art of the possible, while envisioning the ideal.
LOL!
Does it bother anyone else that the Compost Heap managed to publicize the Bush’s new address TWICE in this blurb?
GWB’s place in history is assured ... as the man who refused to stop illegal immigration and in fact encouraged it. This alone has doomed our country.
Obama is scum. No doubt about it. As for George W. Bush, I would be very happy never to see his globalist face again, or hear any thing he has to say.
Bush set the table for Obama with the TARP money. I can’t forget that.
After 911 he should have closed our borders, he didn't and now we have BHO going to make legal 12 to 20 million illegal immigrants.
Of course they have famliy to bring along too.
Love the Bushes! Always have...always will.
I agree!
Frankly, I find that statement howlingly funny! With his performance so far, I have to ask, WHAT intelligence and charisma? I've seen him make a series of stupid blunders, and he has a scowl on his face most of the time.
The TRUTH is that they're all afraid of being called racist if they DARE try to make fun of That One in any way.
Nah, because the article also mentioned the security you have to go through to get to his cul-de-sac. It also stated that George and Laura are going to pay to have a gate put in at that entrance, which will benefit their neighbors on the circle, as well.
Uh, actually he did close the borders after 9-11! Well at least he did for awhile. I distinctly remember reading that at the time; because the Mexican Pres., Vinc. Fox, was said to be unhappy about it. However, even he said that he had to understand the reasons behind it!
Apparently, he had been trying to get then Pres. Bush to work with him, and allow some Mexicans to come in to join their families and to work. Then 9-11 happened, and that went down the tube!
I also noticed that Pres. Bush and Mex. Pres. Fox were never quite so friendly after that.
Anyone find it strange that WaPo finds it necessary to post the address of the Bush residence in the first sentence of their article?
Bush’s address is in consecutive paragraphs. I don’t find it strange coming from the WaCompost...It’s a calling card, advertisement, for any would be assassin.
A friend of mine sent me an email a couple of weeks ago full of “funny” one-liners from late night tv re: GWB. I replied, “the current occupant of the Oval Office has supplied far more material to those idiots on TV and I’ve yet to hear them use any of it! They are so in love with this buffoon that they just can’t find the guts to make fun of him, no matter what the blunder or lie is.” He didn’t respond - guess he didn’t like my answer!
Choices matter.
Proud 33% & 9-12'er
ROTFL!!
Yeah, I don't find too many folks around here who will admit to having voted against That One. Most folks just think he's wonderful. I think it's White Guilt, and they assuaged it by voting for our current Governor (who is even worse) and That One.
I sure hope they've gotten it out of their system before another election rolls around.
The sky turned dark. A cold rain fell. The Romanian president introduced him and — look at that! A huge rainbow emerged on the horizon, and the Romanians burst into applause.
“Magical,” Bush said.
$$$$$$$
I remember watching this on tv. It was magical. I am glad that President Bush remembers it fondly. The rainbow as the sun broke through crossed right over the huge crowd, who had been standing in the rain to hear President Bush’s words.
If major media had liked President Bush, it would have gotten so much publicity that every American would probably have seen a clip, or at least, heard about it.
Reading between the lines, it’s clear that Michele My Belle has no class. Laura had two chairs redone for the Obamas and Michele is too busy to send Laura a thank you note?
Tacky. Just tacky.
