HOUSTON -- One person was killed when a group of men tried to steal a boat while driving down a freeway, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said three men in a car tried to steal a boat that a man was hauling with his pickup truck on Interstate 45 at about 1 a.m.

Investigators said the men in the car opened fire on the man in the pickup truck. The man in the pickup truck returned fire, officials said.

One of the men inside the car was killed. The driver of the car stopped at a gas station on North Shepherd Drive for help.

The driver of the pickup truck lost control and ended up a field. There were fish in the boat because the man was returning from a fishing trip at Lake Conroe.

Awful reporting. How do we know robbery was the motive? What guns were used, what caliber, how many shots were fired? What speed?

Terrible lack of detail.

Good story though.

Of coarse they were assault weapons As weapons are always the cause of the crime and therefore assaulting.
Plus they did not have a picture of an AK-47 handy at the time of the report to display, even though it was probably a 9-mm hand gun.

Maybe the guys were just trying to shoot the fish??

The human race is weird. The writer of this story is the weirdest.

It’s always a great day when you can start off reading such a heartwarming story. Absolutely no sarcasm intended.

This perfectly illustrates the benefit of the concealed weapon law in Texas.

The report sounds like a grden-variety road rage incident. NOTHING in the “report” provides evidence that there was an attempt to steal the boat. Wow. That is some lame “reporting”.

Shootout In NW Houston Leaves One Dead

Wednesday, April 08, 2009 | 9:29AM

A shootout between two vehicles ended with one dead and two others in the hospital.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A driver fought off alleged would-be robbers by shooting into their car while chasing them overnight.

One of them happened on Shepherd near West Little York in northwest Houston. Police found one person dead and two others wounded inside a white vehicle around 1am in the area near I-45 and Beltway 8

Authorities say the people inside the car were allegedly trying to rob the individuals inside the truck pulling a boat. Police say the suspects fired towards the truck and the truck driver fired back and then began chasing the suspects.

Four people were inside the white car and three of those people were shot. One person died and the two others are in a hospital undergoing surgery.

Authorities say they found weapons inside the car. Police say they have talked to the intended robbery victim. The case will likely be sent to a grand jury to determine if any charges will be filed against the truck driver.

Y’all must have some real enterprising thieves in Texas. Do I understand this right - they were trying to steal the boat while the owner was hauling it, on a highway???

Just when you think you’ve heard it all...

Who’s for taking up a collection to send the driver of the pickup truck over to rescue Captain Phillips?!?

Because HolyO has absolutely NO intention of rescuing an American citizen, might hurt his Islamic ‘friends’ (they aren’t pirates, they’re just misunderstood fishermen!) feelings! Plus I think he’s waiting for his Imam’s permission to act!

“Don’t mess with Texas.” That’s right, in Texas it is best to treat every one on the road as if they are carrying a firearm, because I have found out most do.

I didn't know they were biting at Conroe.

My guess is coming back up from the Gulf.

It's been my experience that the pickup drivers around Conroe are some of the worst drivers in the state.
