SENECA, Mo. - When authorities raided J.B.'s Precious Puppies, they discovered more than 200 dogs standing in their own excrement, crammed three and four to a cage. Some were so sickly they were missing clumps of hair. The skeletal remains of puppies and adult dogs were found inside pet-food bags...

This is a tragedy, but we must be vigilant that a rogue government doesn't make use of this tragedy (and others like it) to continue to erode the freedom of Americans. I am a small-scale breeder (5-10 litters per year.) I am inspected regulatly by AKC. I don't need the government poking its nose into my "hobby". I have a web site www.buyingapuppy.com and a blog about my experience as a "hobby" breeder.

Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma all lead the nation in this, meth addiction, prescription painkiller addiction, the incarceration of women, etc., etc.

Backyard breeders are “puppy mills” yet many licensed “rescues” are nothing but glorified hoarders. This is not right.

My pup was bought from a “broker” who had a bunch of happy healthy pups. She is a darling “Pet quality” dog and exactly what we wanted.

Through research. I live in Eastern Oklahoma and have been involved in the behavioral health field for many years.

I appreciate small Breeders. My Cocker was from a small breeder and I would trade her for anything. My Cat was abandon so I adopted him as well, he is pretty much my constant companion.

When it comes to POS like this. Horse whipping and high voltage would only be the beginning.

Thank you, not something I had heard in those precise terms. Especially the incarceration of women.

Breeders are under attack by animal rights activists, without much distinction. The thought is that the overwhelming pet stock produces many more animals than can be cared for. Therefore, they believe that breeders only add to the problem. Pure breeds are not their concern, only the care of existing animals.

>>Breeders are under attack by animal rights activists, without much distinction<<

But there should be.
There is a huge difference between a person like the OP who has a few litters a year and will not breed if she cannot sell the last litter, and the horrendous puppy mills.

A huge difference.

In Oklahoma the overwhelming charge is substance abuse related, although, in Tulsa County, many women in the County jail are single moms that are arrested for getting picked up with outstanding warrants due to unpaid traffic tickets they cannot afford to pay. A good friend of mine is the Director of Social Services for Tulsa County and studied this phenomenon.

Oh, I agree with you, but PETA, et al, see it differently. By breeding you are adding to an already over-supplied pet stock relegating many animals to terrible conditions or euthanasia. So, to them it does not really matter how you treat the dogs you breed as the act of breeding is reprehensible.

Until the Almighty gets around to dealing out wrath, the State of Missouri needs to stop siccing it’s state police on those who speak out against Obama, and start enforcing their own laws. THAT is how they address their reputation.

But it's true, Missouri is the puppy mill capital, as well now boasting raging chimps...

This happened about a couple miles from my house. I know the people involved and will vouch for them being low-lifes.

Be careful not to lump PETA with most mainstream humane societies. PETA has a weird notion of ridding animals of the burden of being subjugated to man no matter how kindly the animals may be treated.

This suggests to me many are and have been brought up under the 'social services' culture. Part of the so called war on poverty has trapped generations. I was at the local WalMart recently and a gal and her grandmother in front of me had 500 + dollars of 'food' items paid for with some sort of 'government' card. Both looked like they had lived very hard lives. Reason I know, was that the WalMart computer rejected some 'easter' egg coloring item as NOT accepted for government funding. The gal had to dig through her $500 + already sacked items in two carts to get out and pay for on her own the rejected item. And she was NOT happy about it.

I finally left the check out isle because the nearly three feet long receipt was still being discussed about other rejected items.

You raise a good point, although the ranks of the ASPCA are quite full of people who think as I have outlined.

I suppose that you might be correct. My friend, however, was concerned with the deadend our system propagated. These women no longer could raise their children, who became wards of the state with their incarceration for traffic tickets. This was not helpful in getting them to become working, tax paying, constructive members of society - only dug them in deeper.

Bet there’s probably some gummit regulation forbidding Wal-Mart from asking a customer for such cards prior to ringing up anything, so that if something isn’t eligible it is flagged (and can be set aside for a cash sale if necessary).

Even the IRS will take time payments if necessary. This situation is stupid.
