State Cuts Delay U.S. Benefits, Official Says

WASHINGTON — The nation’s top Social Security official says benefits for tens of thousands of people with severe disabilities are being delayed by furloughs and layoffs of state employees around the country.

The official, Michael J. Astrue, the commissioner of Social Security, said Sunday that “governors are hurting their own states, their own citizens, and increasing the backlog of claims” by furloughing workers who make disability decisions.

You may remember a few years ago the President of the NRA, Wayne LaPierre stirred up a hornet's nest when he said DemocRATS are comfortable with the amount of gun crimes so-as to keep the issue alive as a campaign issue.

I would take that a step further and say RATS are comfortable with people living in squalor, being addicted to drugs, and generally living their lives as wards of the state so-as to keep those issues alive as campaign issues as well.

I am with you — what does the state have to do with disability claims for Social Security. Know the people in the local Social Security office are federal employees. This makes ZERO sense just like ZERO, the President.

That’s the only thing I can think of and if that is the case then bring it back in the federal government. I know I wouldn’t want the State Employees that work at the OK Capitol to have to make a decision.

Going to the source article it says that SSA contracts out the processing of these claims to state employees, paying their total salary and expenses. In addition, of course, the benefits are entirely federal for Social Security Disability. If this is correct the states are saving nothing by furloughing these employees, and are preventing disabled people from receiving their benefits. Makes no sense.

I was just about to tell you the same thing — did the research as well. Agree it makes zero sense to furlough people paid for by the Feds. Think we should have some examples. I don’t trust anyone associated with ZERO’s Administration.
