Tea Parties Forever (Krugman psycho rant - Tea Party/Tax Revolt updates and links)
The New York Times ^ | April 13, 2009 | Paul Krugman

Posted on 04/13/2009 2:04:54 AM PDT by abb

This is a column about Republicans — and I’m not sure I should even be writing it.

Today’s G.O.P. is, after all, very much a minority party. It retains some limited ability to obstruct the Democrats, but has no ability to make or even significantly shape policy.

Beyond that, Republicans have become embarrassing to watch. And it doesn’t feel right to make fun of crazy people. Better, perhaps, to focus on the real policy debates, which are all among Democrats.

snip

One way to get a good sense of the current state of the G.O.P., and also to see how little has really changed, is to look at the “tea parties” that have been held in a number of places already, and will be held across the country on Wednesday. These parties — antitaxation demonstrations that are supposed to evoke the memory of the Boston Tea Party and the American Revolution — have been the subject of considerable mockery, and rightly so.

snip

Last but not least: it turns out that the tea parties don’t represent a spontaneous outpouring of public sentiment. They’re AstroTurf (fake grass roots) events, manufactured by the usual suspects. In particular, a key role is being played by FreedomWorks, an organization run by Richard Armey, the former House majority leader, and supported by the usual group of right-wing billionaires. And the parties are, of course, being promoted heavily by Fox News.

But that’s nothing new, and AstroTurf has worked well for Republicans in the past. The most notable example was the “spontaneous” riot back in 2000 — actually orchestrated by G.O.P. strategists — that shut down the presidential vote recount in Florida’s Miami-Dade County.

Maybe Krugman isn’t aware that the American Revolution was supported by about 1/3 of the population at that time, at most.

Minorities can do amazing things when their backs are against the wall, so to speak.

I don’t think Mr. Krugman’s article had the desired effect.
I just joined FreedomWorks - thanks to him.

I don't personally care for the tea party events. I don't really see the point.

I know what you mean. But I am going to go. I believe all movements start somewhere and that bodies count in these things. Personally, I think the label "tea party" allows coverage to be along the lines of "these people don't want to pay taxes. Don't they want the roads, a fire department, a police force?"

However, things are going terribly wrong in this country ... the Constitution and our founding principles are out the window. And we get nothing but lies and perversions. The Bowing Obama incident brought this home to me. That they can calmly lie in the face of a contradictory video, just brings home to me the fact that they've been calmly lying all along.

My letter-writing has been met with silence or form letters proving my letter wasn't even read. Where do I go to change a predatory government, if not to the streets?

Yes it was, and the beers afterwards!

I’ve received my big money check from the Mellon’s, so I will be at the Boston party, Wednesday.

It’s part of my heritage.
This Irish guy was walking down a street and he sees a big brawl. He taps a guy on the shoulder and says, “Is this a private fight, or can anyone join?”

Take care, Patriot!

From now on I will be referring to this new propagandist alignment of the US media in the following manner, and I suggest that we all here adopt the same approach as well.

MEDIA FASCIST!

That is what Paul Krugman (and his compatriots) has brought to this country.

They are now all FASCISTS because they levy hate upon the the precept of the two-party system.

I watched most of it...had to bring it into the living room on my laptop to show hubby - watched it again..didn't matter....

He is so engaging, so articulate, the timing, the memory to present this.....it's like divine intervention....it's so good. I asked my husband how he could be soooo good - how he DOES this without missing a beat. He said, "Honey, he LIVES this..it's his life and it's who he is."

But he found a good formula for recognition: write for the NY Times, Central Banks and ANYTHING that brings about political power for the left.
