Yes he authorized the use of the Navy SEALs for the rescue and yes he does deserve credit when compared to the rest of the cowardly nations around the world. However, the use of the SEALs is not what I would call anything other than the most obvious choice for the big 0 to make. I would not start hailing him as the new Alexander with this exhibit of. . . what else is he going to do.

I supposed he could have surrendered: sent in a negotiating team and a white flag: offered the Somoli’s $500,000,000,000,000,000 in taxpayer funds for the next 2,000 years: give them Boston (not a bad idea).

Friday evening (our time) the President gave the first OK to shoot, I believe.

Once it was known that Captain Phillips jumped overboard exposing the Somalis to the Navy's guns and nothing happened then any kind of watch, wait and negotiate approach was not viable politically. Obama had to permit the military to do the job. It was best for him.
