Georges Marciano, a co-founder of the Guess clothing empire, is the latest person seeking to become governor of California.
The one-time fashion magnate's paperwork was recorded on Monday with the secretary of state's office, allowing him to run as an independent in 2010, when Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is termed out.
The 62-year-old Beverly Hills resident plans to campaign on a platform that focuses on exposing and eliminating political corruption and putting "the power of government back in the people's hands," said his publicist, Rod Harrell.
"He doesn't really want to be tied into the same old good-old-boys network," Harrell said.
He said Marciano plans a formal campaign launch soon. Marciano helped found Guess in 1982, five years after he and his three brothers moved to the U.S. from France. The brothers bought out his share in the Los Angeles-based company for $240 million in 1993. Harrell said Marciano now works in real estate. He was last in the news in 2007, when he bought what then was the largest top-quality, brilliant-cut white diamond ever to appear at auction. The 84.37-carat diamond sold for just under $16.2 million.
Marciano named the diamond "Chloe" after his daughter. He joins a gubernatorial field that includes 21 other candidates who have registered with the secretary of state's office.
Among the Democrats considering a run are attorney general and former governor Jerry Brown, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom and Lt. Gov. John Garamendi. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also is considered a possible contender.
On the Republican side, two wealthy former Silicon Valley executives, Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner and former eBay chief executive Meg Whitman, are competing with former Rep. Tom Campbell for their party's nomination.
YAWN
Why oh Why did I click on this on my last stop before bed...
I have a hard time believing it is coincidence that Guess’s offices are located in the building that
Michael Milken/Drexel Burnham Lambert used for their West Coast operations.
I also am getting sick of the millionaires that think the Governor’s office is a place for OJT. (Checchi, Huffington, etc.)
We’ve already seen what a disaster that can be with Arnold.
What’s wrong with it?
I am assuming this guy is a lefty?..
Independent is just another name for Democrat.
Not always. Besides, if this guy is a leftist, it’s the Dems that aren’t going to want him to run. Of course, we’re probably going to end up with a complete set of leftists on all the tickets.

It’s Gary Coleman’s if he wants it. This is his year—I can feel it.
Either that, or one of the Coreys.
Nothing in Wikipedia under Georges’s name, but we have his brother here (and he is mentioned)

Paul Marciano
Born: 1952, Algeria
Nationality: American, Algerian, French
Labels: Guess? Inc.
Paul Marciano (ca. 1952[1]) is a Jewish-American fashion designer and co-founder of Guess? Inc. He is the mastermind behind the Guess? image and his sensual black-and-white advertisements have won numerous Clio awards. Initially run by all four Marciano brothers (Paul, Armand, Maurice and Georges), today the company and its extension lines, Marciano and G by Guess, are handled only by Paul and Maurice.
Early life
Paul Marciano was born in 1952 in Algeria, and raised in Marseilles, France with his four siblings, Georges, Armand, Maurice and Jacqueline. His father, like his grandfather and great-grandfather before him, was a rabbi.[2] They lived in an apartment in a synagogue complex and from age 8-15 Paul, along with his brothers, was a member of the Eclaireurs Israelites de France, a Jewish boy scout group which was located in the same complex.[3]

“I am assuming this guy is a lefty?..”
He’s a Jewish fashion designer......I thing the answer is quite obvious.
But, but, but... he’s cute and he has nice cars!

Algerian!!!
Only TWO Ferraris. He’ll have to do better ... ;-)
Is ‘01 his most recent donation ? The donation to Hentschel was an unusual one. She ran in the Black L.A. district that sent Diane Watson to Congress and got just 20% in that special election. Perhaps he’s a disgruntled Dem if ‘97 was his last donation to them.
Those were all his federal contributions (via Newsmeat)
He has never made a California political contribution (per CalAcess)
All of his brothers also gave to Hentschel — and were mostly all liberal contributions. Perhaps it was a friend or acquaintance?
Possible acquaintance. That was such a hopeless cause, literally like pissing the $$ away, though it would’ve been nice to have won the district, even with an ostensible RINO (of course, the real Conservative in that race was Ezola Foster, she was running 3rd party).
