Obama's bogus gun statistics
Washington Times ^ | April 14, 2009 | Editorial

Posted on 04/14/2009 12:37:25 PM PDT by JohnRLott

The Obama administration is fudging when it claims that 90 percent of guns used in crimes in Mexico come from the United States. The bogus statistics are being used as an excuse to push gun control.

The Obama White House and the Mexican government are in agreement that Americans' rights to purchase firearms should be curtailed. Appearing on CBS' "Face the Nation" on Sunday, ahead of President Obama's trip this week to Mexico, Mexican Ambassador Arturo Sarukhan stated that "reinstituting the [assault weapons ban] could have a profound impact on the number and the caliber of the weapons going down to Mexico."

The ambassador used the 90 percent number to justify new gun bans in the United States. Mr. Obama, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr., Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano all have made policy recommendations based on this claim.

The gun controllers have to use phony statistics because the truth does not support their agenda. According to William La Jeunesse and Maxim Lott of Fox News, "only 17 percent of guns found at Mexican crime scenes have been traced to the U.S." On Friday, National Public Radio asked the attorney general about the Fox News analysis. Mr. Holder sidestepped the facts with more misleading data. "It almost doesn't matter if it's 60 percent, 70 percent or 90 percent," Mr. Holder claimed. "The reality is that too many guns are flowing from the United States into Mexico." . . . .

It's critical with the Obama administration gearing up for more gun control that pro-RKBA join together. The NRA is still offering free one-year memberships at http://www.nra.org/bonus.

What a campaign add. The Mexican government thinks gun ownership in the US shoud be curtailed and the Obama administration agrees with them. If these guns are being purchased in the US what do you have to do to purchase a gun?? Have a drivers license? maybe we need to make sure that illegal aliens are not allowed to have drivers licenses or other forms of ID so they can not ILLEGALLY puchase guns and take them to Mexico. We need to turn this around on them ASAP.

What percentage of that arms flow is entirely legal, complete with BATFE-approved export paperwork?

This is a simple logical progression:

1).These are weapons that are tightly controlled.

2).If they can be traced, as stated, then with our highly regulated system, they should easily find the gun store or FFL where they originated.

3). The FACT that they are NOT doing so – i.e. Sending storm troopers into gun shops and FFL's all over the place, is proof positive that these statistics are pure BS!!!

If the problem in Mexico is due to the same “assault weapons” millions of Americans own, semi-auto, black rifles, then the problem is culture and not guns. Mexico should allow its citizens to own firearms for personal defense and defense against tyranny. They should welcome American firearms and ammunition with open arms, and destroy the black market that is fueling their drug cartels and gangsters. Stop the gun prohibition. Legalize guns.

Listened one night last week to “Plains Radio” online to a NRA guest from Texas (forgot his name). He said that over 120,000 Mexican military had deserted the Mexican Army past few years taking their assault weapons with them. Now where do you think those guns are now? Our country may have sold those weapons to the Mex. military, yet the dem. control freaks are screaming to ban sales of them in our country. Watched 60 Minutes Sunday night where Feinstein will promote new gun laws as soon as Amnesty and Health Care are passed.

"It almost doesn't matter if it's 60 percent, 70 percent or 90 percent," Mr. Holder claimed.

Or even 15% as the case may be. Holder is a totalitarian.

I wonder if Trent Lott read freerepublic? We knew the false reports Billary stated in Mexico were for gun control. Freepers are smart and have figured out obama’s way to get what he wants for his puppet masters.

You can’t totally control a society unless the lawful have no weapons. You can shoot to kill the unlawful because they will have guns one way or the other.

I am ecstatic Lott is speaking out and alerting everyone. We need all gun owners to show up 2010. 100 million gun owners to vote to disable the majority marxist agenda.

I always thought it odd that they claimed 90% of those full-auto recently minted Chinese AK47s came from the US because I really want to know where to get one.

Same tired old lies were put forth by Diane Feinswine on Sunday's 60 Minutes....this coming from the same idiot hasn't a clue how to handle a weapon safely.

Forth Worth Star-Telegram columnist Jill Labbe wrote, “Guns (are)nowhere as dangerous as liberals who can’t handle them. There stood Dianne Feinstein, the anti-gun senator from California, posing for all the nation’s media to capture on Kodachrome, holding an AK-47 with her finger firmly planted on the trigger. Here’s a woman so concerned about the supposed recklessness of gun manufacturers…who wouldn’t know firearm safety if it bit her in the end of her upturned San Franciscan nose.”

Meanwhile, this clueless idiot Feinstein funneled defense contracts to companies controlled by her husband while she was a member of the Senate Armed Services committee.

Feinstein should have been indicted and upon conviction sent off to federal prison.

You might be interested in the stories I linked in #17. You will find breakdowns on how many guns, ammo and other armaments have been supplied to Mexico and Latin America by Uncle Sam.
