MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) -- Mexican authorities arrested a woman guarding an arsenal that included the first anti-aircraft machine gun seized in Mexico, police said Tuesday, as the army announced the capture of an alleged top drug cartel lieutenant.
The arsenal belonged to a group linked to the powerful Beltran-Leyva drug cartel, federal police coordinator Gen. Rodolfo Cruz said. It also included ammunition, five rifles, a grenade and part of a grenade launcher.
Cruz said the confiscated .50-caliber, anti-aircraft machine gun can fire 800 rounds per minute and is capable of penetrating armor from more than 5,000 feet (1,500 meters). Police on a routine patrol Monday found the gun fitted atop an SUV at a house in northern Sonora state.

A .50-caliber on your SUV roof could lift “road rage” to a new level!
Yeah, I've seen those in Sam's Club next to the paper towels, obviously they buy them there and smuggle them across the border.
I guess it was one of those guns bought in the USA using the Gun Show Loop Hole and smuggled into Mexico!!
I used to think I’d like to have a megaphone attached to the outside of my vehicle, to blast idiot drivers. I gave up on that years ago, but with the fools talking on their cell phones and driving like they’re riding with someone not driving the car, I just might actually mount one on the passenger door!
I saw one at Wal-Mart a little pricey though.
... but a SUV?
In fact, if you buy one at any Sam’s Club in Tejas in the month of Abril, you get a free sombrero and a coupon for a Texican whopper at Burger King.
Spendy to shoot too. About $4.00 a round. Let’s see; $4.00/rd X 800/min = $3200.00 just to shoot cans.

“Mexican detained with anti-aircraft machine gun”
I didn’t know we were detaining Mexicans with anti-aircraft machine guns. We should have started that a long time ago and I hope we keep doing so.
I remember when it was $1 a round and nothing was chambered for it, now .308 is $1 a round
I suppose the rats will say that was bought in the US.
And I don't know where you live, but a lot the Sam's I know have their parking lots filled with license plates from Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas as well as Texas.
It jest ain't right, the Mezzicans is buying all our anty-aircraft machine guns. They should be a law agin' it! (Sarcasm off)
They must be concept weapons because the San Francisco Chronicle did not release any pictures.
Or maybe they were to scary?
Pictures of the actual “cache” linked on Drudge. Girl is sort of cute - then there are maybe 5 rifles and 350 mags.
Got it at an American Gun Show. /sarcasm
Must have bought it at a Walmart and smuggled it across the border.
No wonder I couldn’t find one. I was looking in the ICBM aisle.
I don't know why they won't show a picture of the gun,
all they show is this 30 cal. M1919.
Uh Oh... we are going to have to take all Anti-Aircraft machine guns off the local sporting goods store shelves before any more are bought and redistributed to the drug gangs in Mexico and....errrrr....what? They are not sold to private citizens? You can’t buy them at the local sporting goods store?....
OMG, the Mexican women are wearing burkas!
I want one!
That's right. I'm surprised that Diane Sawyer wasn't johnny-on-the-spot to report the SUV also had a "NRA" sticker in the rear windshield.
Obviously the AA gun was bought at a neighborhood gun store in the US along with the other fully automatic weapons. They were smuggled across the border by American illegal aliens going into Mexico to take jobs that Mexican’s won’t do. Napalitano and her crew have traced the weapons back to the various gun stores here in the US to back up her and the MSM’s claim that most of the weapons come from the US.
> Mexican detained with anti-aircraft machine gun
When will reporters learn basic English grammar?
Gramatically the headline implies that an anti-aircraft machinegun was used to detain a Mexican.
Reporters can barely write their own names these days. I think the only requirement to be a reporter is to say the phrase “Obama good, conservatives bad” 1,000 times.
What... A machine gun or a machine-gun-toting Mexican woman?
And I’m sure it wasn’t the Mexican taxpayers who paid for that Blackhawk.
Why are the police wearing masks, but the detainee is not? In most areas the bad guys wear the masks and the good guys don’t. Or is that the point?
The picture I saw showed a standard .50 cal machine fun. It would be AA if you pointed it up in the air when a plane is flying over same as I have a 9 mm anti-aircraft pistol. If I point it in the air and a plane is flying low enough, I might hit it.
It’s a 30 cal machine gun, and not an AA gun...
Those drug cartels are killing police when they can identify them.
She purchased it from Wal-Greenns
I was hoping for some quad .50s, nice defensive weapon on infantry in the open, although not allowed by the Geneva Convention. Just keep aiming for those low flying aircraft they are shielding in their ground assault.
30-06 - old school.
You can purchase a legal, semi-auto version of the M1919 and/or a Ma Duce. You will need a truck to carry the Ma Duce - comes with tripod and spare barrel.
Just make sure the Gunny shows you how to headspace the weapon....
the good guys are the minority in Mexico. They have to hide to avoid being ambushed when not on duty.
“Mexico police seize anti-aircraft weapon near US border”
Agence France-Presse | 04/14/2009 11:07 PM
SNIPPET: “MEXICO CITY - Police seized an anti-aircraft machine gun mounted on a van and other heavy weapons at a house in northern Mexico near the US border, an official said Tuesday.
The haul came two days before a visit to Mexico by US President Barack Obama in which Mexico’s violent drug cartels and their mainly US-bought weapons were set to top the agenda.
The machine gun seized in Sonora state, bordering Arizona in the United States, could fire 800 shots per minute up to 1,500 meters away, said Rodolfo Cruz, from the federal public security ministry, at a news conference.
Police also found a grenade launcher, five shotguns, a hand grenade, and scores of magazines and cartridges.
A suspected female caretaker was also detained, Cruz said.”
