Posted on 04/14/2009 6:40:19 PM PDT by PghBaldy
In Harrisburg tomorrow, Rendell is expected to call for the reinstatement of the federal ban on the sale of AK-47s and other automatic firearms.
"Assault weapons were not made to hunt," Rendell added. "No one goes out and shoots a deer with an AK-47 or an M-16. No one does. No one."

Yah well. The Second Amendment wasn’t about hunting.
I have an idea, call me crazy but if the police are outgunned, how about getting them bigger guns?
“No one goes out and shoots a deer with an AK-47 or an M-16. No one does. No one.”
A buddy of mine shot three with an AR last year....
Yo, FAST EDDY Rendell ... The Constitution doesn’t SAY ANYTHING about HUNTING... The Right to Keep and Bear Arms is to PROTECT ourselves from the “WELL REGULATED MILITIA” mentioned just before the Comma!!
Another opportunity for Americans to passively give up more of their rights.
Get a grip, Ed. Automatics are already VERY tightly controlled and regulated. No need for more laws.
How ‘bout we enforce the ones we already have on the books? What say?
Correction Rendell... your so called "assault weapons" were made to hunt.... they were made to hunt tyranny.....
and why do you have that deer in the headlights look?
We The People Are The Sovereign Masters of Our Servant Government.
Maybe not deer, but people shoot smaller prey all the time with 223 caliber AR rifles. There are also 308 caliber AR rifles that are used for deer and larger game.
So-called “assault weapons” are perfect for hunting bipeds, which is why the 2nd Amendment exists, Fast Eddie.
Oooops. Bad link.
That sure looks like an M16 right there.
Those who are alleged to be better armed than the police, and where that is a legitimate concern, are precisely those will will continue to be better armed than the police, regardless of what weapons are outlawed. Such people make it their business to flout the law. Were it not so, no one would care about how well armed they might be.
“Assault weapons were not made to hunt,”
Piano wire wasn’t made to hang people either. What’s your point?
That's an interpretation I've never seen before.
0bama’s caddy & minigun aren’t chump change:
Mr. Rendell, you don't know what the @$#% you're talking about. But, that comes as no big surprise.
(M-16, probably not, but AR-15 is what they'll ban anyway...)
He's right, they're used to shoot wannabe tyrants
30 to 100 bullets at one time?
I’ve got to have one of those.

Keep this up and Fuhrer Obama is going to get SALESMAN of the YEAR!!!
Presumably, the gov is a dhimmicrat and therefore says nothing that is based on truth. He’s an ideal candidate for the Obamaloon collection of Loon-O-Tics.
“Yah well. The Second Amendment wasnt about hunting.”
Yup. It was about taking out fat politicians who had no regard for the rights of the people. Maybe that’s why Eddie is worried?
“AK-47s and other automatic firearms”
Automatic firearms are already banned (unless you have an FFL). Have been since 33. Intentionally mischaracterizing semi-autos as automatics. Pretty much tells you all you need to know about this jerk as well as the “journalist” — they are either too stupid to know the difference or are intentionally lying.
**That’s an interpretation I’ve never seen before.**
Drives the Libs crazy or leaves them Stuttering as I walk away from them.. I refuse to fight with a lib re:2nd amendment on Their terms... gotta keep them off balance
Can someone please explain to me why, if all the illegals have these terrible weapons, we can’t have them to defend ourselves and our property?
Shouldn’t we be equipping our militias, police, and national guards with them as well?
Hunting has nothing to do with 2d Amendment but My main deer-rifle is a Colt AR15.
Well there’s a tea party at the capitol tomorrow, maybe they can address this also.
These people can't let it be known that we need the guns to protect ourselves from *them*. So what does that say about their intentions toward us??
Apparently, Rendell never heard about the "Death Run" that deer do when they get shot. Once you shoot them critters, adrenaline enables them to run another 100 or so yards before falling. Sometimes they get away into the woods. So, in the immortal words of Samuel L. Jackson from "Jackson Brown" -
"AK-47: WHEN YOU POSITIVELY, ABSOLUTELY, HAVE TO KILL EVERY MUTHA----ER IN THE ROOM!"
The movie should be “Jackie Brown,” my bad. I’m thinking about the Tax folks ROFL
He already did.
He ought to get an award for boosting sales of “Atlas Shrugged”, too.
Politicians prefer unarmed peasants
The Second Amendment is not about hunting. If it was, it would say "Venison being good, the right to hunt shall not be abridged."
The Second Amendment is about abusive government.
No, at the time it was written, it was about guaranteeing that the average US citizen had the right to be at least as well armed as a British foot soldier
**He ought to get an award for boosting sales of Atlas Shrugged, too.**
As I read MOST of it during High School, He definitely Motivated me to get a copy to read it Again!!!
As well as 1984 AND Animal Farm
M16 and ARs are two differnently functioning rifles.
M16s are illegal without a Class 3 Federal license.
Rendell doesn’t know what he is speaking about.
>I have an idea, call me crazy but if the police are outgunned, how about getting them bigger guns?
You’re crazy... the obvious solution is to arm the general population.
The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.
“Rendell doesnt know what he is speaking about.”
Not Breaking News.......
“M16 and ARs are two differnently functioning rifles.”
Yep. But, you knew where I was going with that.....
Here is the gun control bill that the Obama Administration and anti-gun Democrats want to pass...
1. An expanded HR 45, gun owner licensing. All gun owners will have to have these licenses, even owners of facilimie weapons (AKA Airsoft and BB). Licenses will only be granted if the records of the applicant are clean (This includes misdemeanors from decades ago). Licenses will have high renewal fees ($100-300/yr). Licensees will be required to hold $1 million in liability insurance. Possession of otherwise permitted weapons (See #3) without license is a felony.
2. Ammunition accountability... All ammo will be required to be microstamped and will be taxed $1/round. All non stamped ammo will be required to be turned in or thrown away. Possession of non-marked ammo is a felony. This part of the act also bans Cop Killer bullets. Furthermore, this will require the gun to leave a microstamp of its own on the ammo. (BTW, this will also affect law enforcement and military ammunition stocks, as they will be required to have stamps of their own)
3. Expanded Assault Weapons ban This includes most all semiauto rifles, anything that can be Bump Fired, Semiauto handguns, and Semi-auto shotguns. It also includes pump-action shotguns and Sniper Rifles AKA your deer rifle. The AWB will also require people with Prebans to register their guns as Machine Guns, and that the tax stamp will go up to $10,000 per weapon. If you cant afford this, you have to turn the weapon in without compensation...
4. Expansion of the Lautenbach amendment: Removes Domestic Violence as disqualifier to gun ownership, inserts any misdemeanor as disqualifer... Anyone with a misdemeanor on their record will be prohibited from owning a firearm. This includes DUI and traffic offenses, and offenses decades ago.
Finally, all CCW permits will be voided. Also, all gun and ammo imports will be banned.
4b — Also allows mere allegations, unsubstantiated rumors, and trumped-up charges to be used as disqualifiers.
Ignoring the fact that the 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting, Fast Eddie is completely wrong here too. I guess he's just too fast with the facts...
Semi-auto AKs and SKSs ARE used for hunting all the time. The cartridge they fire (7.62x39) is roughly the same power as the most common deer cartridge around (30-30 Win). Given the average range that most deer are taken, both the AKs and SKSs are plenty accurate for hunting, and they're about the most trouble free, durable, rugged, and reliable mechanical devices ever designed.
Fast Eddie is sort of right about shooting deer with an M-16. First off, M-16s are extremely rare in civilian hands. No new M-16s have been sold to civilians since 1986, because the FOPA forbids the registration of new fully automatic weapons to civilians. So an M-16 in civilian hands would sell for several thousand dollars, coupled with a federal background check, and the weapon would still be at least 23 years old!
On the other hand, an "AR-15," or some derivative is an extremely popular sporting (target shooting AND hunting) rifle. Not so much for deer, since the .223/5.56 cartridge isn't legal for deer hunting in many states. But the rifles are extremely accurate, and are terrific varmint and target rifles.
So Ed, pull your head out of your a$$ and quit lying for once!
Seen same thing on several other sites...
When I tried to order an AR-15 Bolt & Carrier assembly and charging handle, the only place I could get to take my order (most weren't taking "back orders" until they got "caught up") informed me that it would be at least 4 months before they could get the parts.
"If the problem is that there are 'too many guns on the streets,' disarm the police. If the problem is that there are too many bad guys on the streets, lock them up and arm the good guys."
For the first time, I see how tyranny will come.
