DHS Warns of 'Right-Wing Extremists'
NBC Chicago News ^ | Updated 6:45 PM CDT, Tue, Apr 14, 2009 | By Andy Barr

A new Department of Homeland Security report is warning law enforcement officials of a growing threat of “right-wing extremist groups.”

“The consequences of a prolonged economic downturn — including real estate foreclosures, unemployment, and an inability to obtain credit — could create a fertile recruiting environment for right-wing extremists and even result in confrontations between such groups and government authorities,” the report warns.

The report explains that threats so far have been “largely rhetorical,” but points to the April 4 shooting of three police officers in Pittsburgh as a “recent example of potential violence associated with right-wing extremism.”

The document points to both the economic downturn and election of President Barack Obama as potential recruitment tools for militant groups.

“Many right-wing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use,” it reads.

The report also highlights anger directed at illegal immigrants and perceived threats from foreign countries as potential recruiting pitches from the groups.

The department is especially concerned with attempts to “radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat.”

“The willingness of a small percentage of military personnel to join extremist groups during the 1990s because they were disgruntled, disillusioned, or suffering from the psychological effects of war is being replicated today,” the report reads.

Throughout the document comparisons are made to the 1990s, a period when the country was rocked by several acts of domestic terrorism including the 1995 bombing of the federal building in Oklahoma City.

“Paralleling the current national climate, right-wing extremists during the 1990s exploited a variety of social issues and political themes to increase group visibility and recruit new members,” the report reads. “During the 1990s, these issues contributed to the growth in the number of domestic right-wing terrorist and extremist groups and an increase in violent acts targeting government facilities, law enforcement officers, banks, and infrastructure sectors.”

Here we go. Right from the mouth of Homeland Security. Font color mine. Bellicose, totalitarian language from Homeland Security.

Potential Right-wing identifiers include people concerned about second amendment rights, those who dislike identity politics (favoring one segment of the population over another). We have a very thinly veiled link to those of us who think illegals need to be deported (we support the law; we are extremist for that).

“Many right-wing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration

Gotta love that one. Disliking Obama is a possible indicator of potential Right Wing Extremism.

Blaming Americans again.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Not only has our government done nothing to protect its citizens, this statement demonstrates that our government is overtly hostile to us.

The last paragraph uses the word terrorist. It refers to Oklahoma City and other acts (which were condemned strongly here). I wonder how long it will be before you or I are labeled terrorists because of our opposition to these policies, with prison sentences being imposed.

Be vigilant.

Has anyone started the FOIA inquiry on this one?
Who wrote this?
What caused this document to be written and published?
Just a curious bubba here.

We will never know, and even if we did - it wouldn’t matter. Obama is exacting his agenda, regardless of anything or anyone.

As J. Taranto from WSJ noticed today, finally Obama Administration has found the proper context for the use of the word “terrorism” instead of “man-made disaster” - when referring to their political opponents!

So now the government has painted main stream Americans as “Right Wing Extremists”. This tells those of us who consider our mainstream conservative positions normal the direction and distance that those in power are from us. They have openly admitted that they are far, far, far left of the citizens they are attempting to govern.

And I count myself among the untold numbers of livid and besmirched Legionnaires. These pigs should be stripped of any protections afforded by the very Constitution they defile at their perverted pleasure, and prosecuted for their subversion.

They are goading us into civil insurrection for the purpose of turning America into a nation under martial law.

So if I dislike the Resident...er...President...I’m an extremist?

I suppose none of those tofu-eating, dope smoking FM types that Rush speaks of who hated Bush aren’t extremists at all?

My first thought on reading this is that the liberal left-wing extremists (formerly known as National Socialists) are baiting the constitutional conservatives in the hopes of making any reply into a self-fulfilling prophesy....much like the "Brown-shirts" of an earlier generation. Do not be baited!

The President's federal civilian defense force will be at the ready to suppress all defenders of the Constitution with all the quasi-military force they can justify.

'Viking.....you hit the nail on the head once again.'

I may be coarse; I may be crude; I may be insulting; I may piss people off (I marinate in that ); but I won't hitch up my skirt and hide behind the politically-and-socially correct living room curtains of etiquette. I'll call a spade a spade, feelings and sensibilities be damned. The time for polite conversation ended when Dutch Reagan left office. And that was in it's twilight even before then. Enough is enough! What the hell does it take to get people motivated? Are they waiting for the ACLU to file lawsuits arguing that the Easter Bunny is too religious for public display?
