Hi kristinn,

Before I went to the Tea Party today I made a mini-pilgrimage to the Old State House on State Street (It was called Kings Street until July 4, 1776, when out of the balcony, the Declaration was read to the crowd beneath.)

Recall that this Old State House is the former British Government House; it is shown in the background of the iconic Paul Revere woodcut showing the Boston Massacre. The building looks the same today. Today just some busloads of schoolkids on a tour.

Then I went to the location of today’s Tea Party at Boston Common, right in front of the gold-domed Statehouse, where they had posted hours for the Tea Party of 11:00 to 13:00 and 17:00 to 19:00.

I could only make the first half, which carried on until well past 1500, but maybe it did till the second half was supposed to start. Most of the people there kept looking at their watches, having to go back to work, school, whatever. We really need to take the time to do this sort of thing unselfconsciously, I made a note to myself.

I estimated 1000 people for the first half; with 2000 for total, and this is NOT an exaggeration, IMHO. People were milling in and out; it was hard to count. There were no goons from the DHS or ACORN or NAMBLA, etc. There was ONE Boston Police officer... he was on a horse!! The Boston Police had this nifty F350 dual cab pickup pulling a two-horse wagon, with exactly the same paint-job and logo and typeface as the Boston Police cruisers... very amusing.

The officer was a block away by the Park Street T Station. Not any reason for him to be there, really, it was so peaceful. No other police cars in the vicinity.

Conspicuously, the Fox News Affiliate has its office overlooking Boston Common, RIGHT THERE, on the very corner of the Common where the demonstration took place. It is one of these picture-window studio things with a huge colorful sign on the building like the Today Show has (or as Brent Bozell calls them, Good Morning Morons). There was no broadcast truck with any logo or camera or anything covering this, well maybe not: I think New England Cable Network had a truck there. And keep in mind that I walk by the capitol all the time and there are usually two or three antenna trucks with MSM network logos there on any given non-newsy weekday just because of the legislature. It is just too very strange that no one would cover this. Its bad form for them in the MSM not to cover this. It looks like they are pretending really hard to ignore it.

For a city the size of Boston this turnout may seem pitiful; not to mention the historic significance of the event and the town... but I was very happy to see this many turn out in a place where conservatives don’t interact much at all and basically feel like whipped dogs. In fact, one speaker made a point and had everyone introduce himself to the person next to him/her to show that conservatives, indeed, were capable of social interactions and networking. This got a laugh from the excellent people there in the crowd.

Absolutely no one misbehaved, and every person who was just walking by or around to get somewhere or to the subway could not help but notice what a nice crowd it was. I did not hear a single dirty word. Nor any words spoken in anger.

Occasionally I would see one or two people arguing, but, these were civilized and basically friendly and fair-minded encounters.

Overall I felt this wave of momentum... So many conservatives like us got a shot in the arm from coming together. Hard to describe.

Lots of Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” flags and dudes in reenactors’ snazzy Continental Army wear... brown coats and waistcoats with buff facing, maybe blue with buff facing. Very nice, not mean, not obscene, signs with lots of images of the FFs all over the place.

Very uplifting event overall, everyone seemed to have the same vibe, smiling, etc. It has been a very long, cold, depressing winter here in Boston, especially since the election. Today was the first day it really felt like Spring. But the way the climate is, the trees still look wintry except for a green tint on the little branches.

But there was another vibe; that this was just a beginning. There will be more to this reform movement, or whatever it is. Too many good people around who have been busy doing other things; now hopefully will turn their attention on the country, which needs some care and feeding from the good guys to nurse it back to health.

I have some pics on my iPhone but do not know how to post them.... need to spend some time on the html boot camp thread.

Regards, c

In Caldwell, TX, (population of about 4,000) I would estimate there were about 100 tax protesters that showed up.

Baytown, TX (30 miles east of Houston) had 500-600. Great turnout for a small city and surrounding area.

I hear you on that. Sometimes I think we shouldn’t re-elect ANYBODY.

That having been said, I am not at all surprised he took the position of calling your Congresscritter:
He ran for the 1st district Congressional seat against G.K. Butterfield last time that came up. It is a heavily Democratic district so he really had no chance. However, I applaud him for making the effort (he got 30% as I recall).

I do not know him well, but next time I see him I will be sure to bring that up.

Fairhope (AL) Tea Party... I say 300-400...Hubby says maybe 400-500 from looking at the pictures (he couldn't attend). Good citizen and Veteran speakers. Upbeat crowd.. or as Cavuto put it "respectful, yet disagreable".

I'm hoping someone has a better headcount than I.

The Birmingham event is going to be on FOX soon I think!

To: kristinn; Uncle Sham

Uncle Sham was correct. Approximately 3,000 in Baton Rouge. I stopped by the Alexandria, Louisiana event on the way home - I estimate 500. I got a phone call on the Monroe, LA event, 500 to 600.

Yes - They are saying 20k in Atlanta, but the Atlanta Journal Constitution only reported 1000. WHAT A CROCK!

That has to be one of the most outrageous underreporting of the. I think every attendee should send AJC a teabag so they can get an accurate count.
