AUSTIN, Texas Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"
When do we pack?!?
There goes any shot at the presidency. This will be used against him for sure.
I was there. Perry had some good “pep” talk but no particulars. I would have loved to hear him say “Here is what I have told Obama and here is what I will tell Obama and here are specifics as to how I’m going to govern Texas toward small government and liberty”. But, no — just platitudes.
I think he has seized on the 10th amendment states’ rights issue as “red meat” that will get him re-elected, and he may be right.
Can we trust him to make it more than just talk? I’m not convinced yet. But I “hope”.
This worries me with the broad Napolitano....
>> There goes any shot at the presidency.
No problem.
Rick Perry is NOT presidential material.
He could be President of the country of Texas.
I don’t love their weather but I’d think about moving.
Let’s roll. It’s time.
I agree... But I think he has intentions.
If he was semi-serious about the borders maybe.
Presidential material today appears to be if you have Saudi money backing you, you refuse to release your birth certificate, you suck up to Islamic terrorists, you want to bankrupt the USA in 6 months or less, etc ect.
I think you get the picture.
Who cares? He’s standing up on principle and the 10th amendment of the United States Constitution. I’d be more inclined to vote for him because he stands up to the thugs and tyrants in the DemoRAT party.
THE TEXAS CONSTITUTION
ARTICLE 1. BILL OF RIGHTS
Sec. 1. FREEDOM AND SOVEREIGNTY OF STATE. Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States, and the maintenance of our free institutions and the perpetuity of the Union depend upon the preservation of the right of local self-government, unimpaired to all the States.
Sec. 2. INHERENT POLITICAL POWER; REPUBLICAN FORM OF GOVERNMENT. All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their benefit. The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient.
Texas is big enough to have any kind of weather you want, just depends on the area you live in.
Well, you know what they say.
“Secession is good, clean fun until somebody tries to take your property away.”
Sounds like Perry is really trying to hard to secure the conservative base for his primary challenge from KBH.
I’ve got mixed feelings on Perry given his past wind checking on illegal immigration.
That said he does seem to have settled pretty firmly on the side of border security for quite a while now.
Will keep watching.
Not if Texas leaves the Union, then I’ll be moving to Texas.
Well DHS better update their right-wing extremism document and include the entire state of Texas. LOL.
He’s not a conservative either.
I tell everyone I know, (even though I LIVE in Kentucky):
I am a TEXAN first, AMERICAN second.
Bavarians, from Germany, really relate to that.
Having grown up in Texas, I can tell you this.. we were ALL taught in school that, when Texas joined the US, we retained the right to secede.. or, to split into a total of Five states. We were even shown the lines proposed for the new states.
Either option would be OK with me. But, if they decide to secede... I will move HOME immediately.
Not sure how far this will go but it's really getting interesting.
Chuck Norris for President of Texas!
If Perry promises to kick all the Libs out.. it’s a done deal.. I’m there!
If this is who he is all the time and about other important issues, such as the ones that make Napolitano wet her pants, we might be ready for another President from Texas.
Well it never stopped Jefferson Davis did it?
Perry and Palin should team up, and lead their states out of the union. Being the biggest energy producing states, they would have the US over a barrel.
Trying to look at houses in Texas on Lycos Real Estate, slowed to a crawl. Wonder why...
abolish or limit...sounds good to me.
My husband and I have already discussed this. If Texas secedes, we’re moving. I can do that without losing my job, because I’m a teleworker, and he’s disabled and not working.
Bet Perry would lose his nerve if it came right down to TX leaving the Union. Legislators, too. Takes courage.
they will be shown the door.
I will move there.....haven't been there in 34 years but I will vote with my feet to defend FREEDOM
There are places in Texas where property is very cheap. Most of them are in the boonies, in fly-over country.
I know, I live there.
And rattlesnakes, fire ants, tornadoes, rednecks......you don't want to move here.
Rick Perry is NOT presidential material.
Like that stops 'em from winning?
Politician taking advantage of the moment.
There’s too muck in Slick Rick’s record to believe him now. He’s just an Aggie Yell Leader running scared of a tu Cheerleader.
Actually, if you don't like the weather, wait five minutes. It'll change.
Todd Palin can run the alaskan secession movement and Sarah-cuda the presidency of Alaska.
I will move back to Texas if the secede... yes I will!

Infested with Mexicans....
And rattlesnakes, fire ants, tornadoes, rednecks......you don’t want to move here
If you are not infested with entitlement minded lazy liberals and actually stand for something, oh yes I do. I have huge bugs, alligators, nasty snakes AND my state voted blue for the first time ever. I am a redneck, we all got fire ants in the south now, and FL has the most tornadoes of any state (little known fact) just not the big ones like tornado alley gets, and we are LOADED with illegals here. At least you got TEXANS in TEXAS!!
LOL, go west young man. We will welcome you.
Yep. Lets do it.
“I don’t love their weather but I’d think of moving.”
Yep. My aunt lives in Texas and she does mention how HOT it is down there from time to time. I wonder if that’s pretty much consistent all over the state. (It gets hot enough here in Tennessee for me. One year, it was as hot in August here as it was in Texas - just about.)
I'm an Aggie and I agree. He's running to the right of where he's governed because his opponent shows RINO tendencies. He figured having better hair wasn't enough.
I really doubt we'd secede, but I love talking about it. I may even change my tagline to, "If at first you don't secede, try, try again."
While my company chokes on the franchise tax, imagine a Republic of Texas with no personal income tax?
Hey, how about this? Imagine a law where you lose your Texas citizenship if you play college football out of state, er, country?
>I will move back to Texas if they secede...
I’m right there with you LLS - and you can take that to the bank.
Right on!
