Just a moment ago, Bob Shrum proclaimed that the tea parties are not "protests", but "squeaks". He further stated that anti-tax sentiment may be there in certain segments, it is nowhere near a majority, and has waned over the years. He said 10 years ago, anti-tax protests were far more momentous (think of it like an oil field; a strong opening, but a gradual depletion over time).
Shrum also said the GOP was in "deep trouble" and would not repeat 1994. He cited demographics and the shrinking Republican party. He said there will always be conservatives who are anti-tax, but they are severely outnumbered by Obamabots and are essentially irrelevant. He says conservatives are a dying breed and will not be an electoral force anytime soon.
I'm playing devil's advocate, and I'm not sure he's right. I'm praying he's wrong.
I am compelled to mention that ROBERT (not “Bob”) Shrum is a lifelong Rat.
Who cares what he says.
Unfortunately he is correct. There are any number of reasons for this, but the November 4, 2008 election proved that way too many prefer living as governmental slaves than free individuals.
Keep in mind that in 2008, McCain was outspent 3-1, he wasn’t even a popular candidate in his own party. Furthermore, it’s difficult for one party to hold on to the WH for three consecutive terms. Then throw in the fact that the mainstream media
Despite all of these major disadvantages - Obama only won by 6 percentage points.
I give Axelrod credit = they knew how to use the new media, they built a huge grassroots campaign and attracted a lot of new donors to the party. The GOP has the ability to do the same. The effort we saw today is a positive sign.
Now we have to find a leader we can all get excited about.
I hope you are as my circle of people who vote has slid from 10 Rep voters down to maybe 6, the other 4 are Wait and See types.
Shrum is poisonous but, the Demographics have shifted. As bad as it is now, it is going to get worse.

True, but Republicans also took big losses in Congress. Bush and some Republicans in Congress did a great deal to damage the party, and it was a factor in the presidential and congressional contests.
Let me clarify my position. Today’s events (that I attended) were nice, but they do nothing for us. We must organize for IMPACT in order to make a difference.
It remains to be seen.
I think we have two choices. One is to hang on and vote in conservative majorities in the House and Senate in 2010. Frankly that’s going to be hard to do unless Obama gets very unpopular and the Republican party bosses get their act together, neither of which is certain.
Obama is such a narcissist he doesn’t even seem to realize that he is constantly offending important people, such as the press. They may just lie down and take it, or they may finally get tired of it. Being in a shrinking industry in a shrinking economy isn’t going to make folks in the media any happier with life under the One.
But if Obama is allowed to do whatever he wants for even just two years, he will wreck the country. He may have wrecked it already, with his enormous spending bills—and no thanks to Bush for helping with that.
If he succeeds, then he will become Komissar of a Communist United States. No Communist State has ever succeeded, but they can struggle on, with great pain and suffering for the people, for decades. The USSR lasted 70 years before it fell apart.
That’s no skin off of Obama’s nose. He can be Komissar for Life, and enjoy himself very much, staging grand spectacles with himself at the focus of attention, like the May Day Parades at the Kremlin and Red Square. Then his successors can worry about the consequences. Politicians tend to do that anyway. But that alternative won’t be a happy state of affairs for our children and grandchildren.
Much depends on whether at least SOME of the Democrats in congress wake up to what the hell they are voting for. If we can have a stalemate for two years, maybe there’s some hope.

No, I left a year ago, don’t have that address anymore, and don’t know why I’m getting this treatment. But ok. You seem pretty darn excited to get another blackmarked account. Look at my tolsti history, nothing happened there.
Does he really think all of the students and blacks who went ga-ga over Bambi will come out to vote for the next Dim presidential pick?
We have the mass anger; we need a political figure we like who can serve as the voice of the mass anger.
